The surface takes a little while to set, but it should be touch dry within 4-6 hours although it’s advisable to leave it 24 hours before you switch your heating back on. Formulated to resist yellowing as well as rust, this is a good choice for water-filled radiators as it’s also heat resistant and goes on smoothly.

This water-based satin paint with a quick drying formula from Johnstone’s is made with the express intention of making your DIY painting projects quick, easy and quality. This type of radiator paint is a good idea if you have decided to use ordinary emulsion paint on your radiator as it provides a protective overcoat to the radiator’s surface. Of course, a second coat may be needed, but that’s all dependent on how well you fared with the first coat. However, given that radiators get distinctly hot by nature, you can’t just put any old paint on there, as radiator paints are specially designed with the heat resistance in mind, among other features.Jenolite’s original chrome spray is suitable for use on multiple surfaces such as metal, wood, hard plastics, stone and glass making it a very useful all-rounder. By and large, as long as a paint is suitable for use on metal (regardless of finish, that’s down to your preference) it can be used on a radiator. The consistency is not as thick as some other radiator paints, so you may need a couple of coats, but if you finish with a small gloss roller, you will get a smooth finish. If you’re looking at experimenting with a mirror effect chrome paint, it might be worth checking out Deco Color. If your radiator is of a more elaborate design, it will probably be worth investing in an angled brush to avoid missing areas too.

And the result is a smart refresh of your radiators that also helps to keep them protected thanks to the durable and tough finish. Previously painted surfaces (or the original factory finish) should be abraded and degreased prior to paint application. This gives you the opportunity to bring fresh life to anything from fireplaces, vases, bed frames and other decorative items.

It’s strongly advised to prime your radiator before painting, as it will ensure the surface is properly prepared and helps the radiator paint bond with the radiator surface.
