About this deal

Patrick’s early life is a Dickensian tale of domestic violence and misfortune, transformed by chance and some good folk into the actor internationally admired and loved. When I ask if he would have achieved what he has done without the confidence given to him by these adults, he says, “I think something would have happened, but it would have taken much longer. This is a sweet story of his childhood growing up in Yorkshire, then his move to the stage acting, and finally Hollywood.

I learned so much of his colorful and winding road from repratoray theatre and classical Shakespeare to the Captain’s chair. This is definitely not just for Star Trek fans, but for all those appreciative of the work of a great actor. I loved all the content about his personal life outside the theater but it’s apparent how much of an impact the stage has had on the entirety of his life. His writing may not have the rugged truth of his best acting, but a wry, conversational charm sees it across the line. Followed by the story of him falling in love with a girl who was 10 years old when she watched him as a middle-aged man in Star Trek. This book provides a very deep and very real look into the life of Sir Patrick, from his childhood to his recent experiences acting in the "Picard" series.

Stewart has been the star of two major pop-culture franchises: the 90s Star Trek revival The Next Generation, in which he played Captain Jean-Luc Picard, and the X-Men film series, in which he played mutant daddy Charles Xavier.

As a huge Star Trek fan of course I wanted to read about Patrick Stewart playing Captain Picard, but this book is more than that. Not that his first, 23-year marriage to Sheila Falconer is described as a mistake – just a case of a “loving couple growing apart”, ending with infidelity on his end (with the actress Jennifer Hetrick) and much pain for his two children.
