About this deal

In 1985, a family tragedy changed everything, and she now draws on the experience of loss in her writing, infusing love, loss and danger with the seductive beauty of her locations. Plot: Even though this story is character-driven, it also moves along at a nice pace with several harrowing events to survive and obstacles to overcome. I like Dinah Jefferies books, my main gripe with them being that sometimes the female characters are a bit weak and too reliant on men to save them. Hélène, the eldest, is trying her hardest to steer her family to safety, even as the Nazi occupation becomes more threatening.

Daughters of War: (The Daughters of War Book 1) by Dinah

Daughters of War is set to a clear and beautifully presented wartime backdrop, that is fully supported by the author’s immersive style of writing. The story centres around three sisters - Helene, Elise and Florence who live in the Dordogne during Nazi occupation. The oldest, Helene, works as a nurse for a local doctor and takes responsibility for her younger sisters. Daughters of War is an emotive and descriptive family saga, charting the back end of the Second World War. As the book draws to its conclusion there are lots of questions remaining and the answers may not even be given until book three. I felt enraged whilst reading about the restrictions and atrocities perpetrated by the nazi military and sincerely hope we remember those who suffered and work together to prevent history repeating itself.

Daughters of War - Dinah Jefferies Daughters of War - Dinah Jefferies

This is an epic, sweeping drama in terms of its length and well over 500 pages and also in terms of the setting and the plot. Being the eldest Helene is responsible for looking after her younger sisters, she puts her own hopes and dreams on hold.It is an excellent historical fiction with all the suspense, mystery, drama and romance one has come to expect from Dinah’s books - the first in what looks to be a most compelling series. I thought at times some of the detail and information presented was surplus to requirements but having read the blurb for the next book, I now understand that Dinah had everything so carefully planned and she was actually dropping little hints as to what plots could arise in the future books.
