About this deal

Most are on a timer, but some sense when they’re getting close to overheating and cut out at that point.

We loved this under blanket not just for the warmth factor, but also because you couldn’t feel the wires at all under the Sherpa fabric. It feels quite utilitarian – the fleece feels quite felt-like, and the wires do create small bumps under the mattress. There’s really not much separating this and the Slumberdown, apart from a slightly annoying pad connecting the blanket to the plug that I found myself kicking a few times at night. Attach it to your mattress via its straps or elastic skirt, place your sheet over it, and then make your bed as usual.

It’s also useful if you’re not wanting to use your electric blanket all night, as you can program it to turn off whilst your asleep, which prevents you from having to move out of a comfortable position to do so manually! One of the heat options is a preheat setting, which warms your electric blanket quickly, so that you’re not having to wait to get into a cosy and warm bed on a winter’s night. This means that unlike earlier heated blankets, you won’t be able to feel them through the luxurious fabric, giving you a comfortable surface to sleep on. My present electric blanket has a connector which is most annoyingly placed where I can feel it below shoulder level when I turn over . Ultra thin wires are now used across the Beurer Komfort range to avoid the discomfort of lying on bulky wires and elements that cheaper blankets use. There’s a timer as well, between one and nine hours, so if you do want it on that little bit longer while you fall asleep, you can make sure it switches off in the early hours. I hadn’t heard of German manufacturer Beurer until we carried out our test of the best wake-up light alarm clocks, and their relatively affordable WL90 clock stood out for its build quality. Also is the control fitted to one side of the blanket or can it be moved to the other side if it suits the electric socket better?

Like a fitted sheet, the blanket has a deep elasticated skirt that is sure to keep your blanket secure – perfect for those who move around a lot as they sleep, as you can be sure that the blanket will stay in place. Unlike the heavy covers your grandmother used to inflict on you, the best electric blankets these days are soft and light, with wires you’ll barely notice – and thankfully much safer and affordable, too. Stanley agrees: “If you have problems with circulation, or medical problems where you are feel cold, it could be beneficial. This gives you complete peace of mind, especially if you’re wanting to use the blanket as you sleep! It is important that the heated blanket is fully dried before connecting it to the plug and before use. If you can use the highest setting to heat the bed but can only sleep all night with it set to number 1, what are settings 2,3,4 and 5 to be used for? As the cold weather starts to bite, thoughts turn to when we’re going to crack and put the heating on for the first time. It feels premium, made from crisp 200-thread count cotton that’s going to help you regulate your temperature.
