Motion handling using the 65C815K’s other, non BFI (Black Frame Insertion) processing, isn’t the best. The rear does suddenly become chunkier a few inches in from those super-svelte edges, but even then the set wears this extra area of bulk quite nicely. The soundbar manages to radiate sound up as well as forward, creating at least a vague sense of height with Dolby Atmos mixes – although there aren’t really any specific overhead effects to speak of. We found little need for color adjustment, but kept an eye on the motion settings, which allow control of blur and judder reduction on scales of 0 to 10. The panel uniformity is patchy and on a 5% slide there are lighter corners and a darker centre, something we expect to see thanks to the LCD filter and the edge-lit approach.

Vocals sometimes sound a little detached from the action, thanks to a combination of occasional slight lip-sync lag when watching Dolby Atmos sources, and the way relatively deep vocal tones can seem to be coming from below the image. The C835 delivers solid audio performance, with plenty of bass (perhaps slightly less than we’d hoped, though). The advantages of using a VA panel are superior contrast and black levels when compared to an IPS type panel. There is decent contrast available on the C815 which means images have some pop to them without looking washed out. It’s not yet in all markets, but Sony’s A95 series is the herald of the new QD-OLED screen tech from Samsung. They do have QC issues, you might get lucky on the first try or you might have to try a few times until you get one with no issues.
