About this deal

The auto shut-off ensures the kettle shuts-off as soon as the water reaches boiling point. A kettle without this function will take longer to cut out after the water has boiled, leading to energy wastage. It’s fairly easy to use, too: hit the 100°C button to boil; hit 85°C to start at this temperature, and then the + button to increase temperature by 5°C. Our only complaint is that 85°C is quite a high starting temperature, which is good enough for hot drinks but not, for example, baby bottles. Still, as the screen shows the current temperature on the screen, a boil can be interrupted manually at a lower level. It has a viewing area to gauge the level of water and a removable filter for easy washing. There is a boil-dry protection feature, and a pour spout feature to keep water from splashing. It also has a 360° base that makes it easy for left-handed people to use. Inside, you’ll find a stainless steel limescale filter, which can be removed for cleaning. Given its tough build quality, this should prove robust and reliable.

The only downside is that the reflective silver surface needs the occasional wipe-down, but this only takes a couple of seconds while your tea is brewing. The system is designed to provide an indication of how much energy the appliance or in this case of a kettle how much it will use during operation. Of course, you have to have the kettle filled with water and ready to go before remotely starting the kettle to boil. If you do, then it can be neat arriving to a freshly boiled kettle. There is the removable limescale filter that ensures your kettle works efficiently even when using hard water. The hidden heating element also makes it easy for you to clean the kettle. It has a360° base that makes it an excellent choice for all users. We are not forgetting its triple safety system that has boil-dry protection, automatic shut-off, and the ability to switch-off when lifted. In short, this means that two different sized appliances with the same energy rating may actually have different running costs. Do fast kettles use more energy? Do note, this isn’t a general all-purpose kettle due to that small capacity, but for those wanting a truly specialist appliance, Dualit definitely has you covered. A keep-warm function ensures the water retains its temperature long after it has boiled. Depending on the kettle, the water can be warm for 20 minutes to 2 hours. Hidden Element

If you are looking to reduce the amount of energy your kettle uses, it’s worth considering an eco-friendly kettle. When you have to boil more water than you need or are not planning on using the water immediately, this function will be a life saver.Safety features for this kettle include non-slip feet, boil-dry protection, and the auto shut-off features. The LEDs illuminations when the kettle is working will brighten up a dull morning when making your favourite beverage.

Efficiency is important, too. Kettles are rated by the maximum amount of power they can draw. High power kettles draw 3kW, but lower-powered kettles are available. The main difference is in how fast they boil water, and total power consumption is similar; however, we measure power usage to help you find the most efficient models. Finding the ‘best’ kettle is harder than you may think, given its primary purpose is just to boil water. But a kettle is not just a kettle. Given Brits drink 100 million cups of tea daily (according to the UK Tea and Infusions Association), the look, feel and performance of your kettle is more important than you might first assume. Many now boast fancy features such as temperature variability for different hot drinks or even (largely pointless) smart technology that can be controlled from your phone. The main reason it made the list of all the kettles we reviewed, is that it’s fantastically eco-friendly. It saves energy using the rapid boil function, keep-warm mode, temperature control panels, and 1 cup boiling option. It also gives you 3 pre-set tea settings. This is a 3kW kettle, which means it boils as fast as UK electricity will allow. It boiled 250ml of water in just 48 seconds, from start to finish.

To ensure that each kettle works properly, we measure the time to boil 1-litre of water and the kettle when full.

Many cups of tea were made as we tested the efficiency, speed, safety and energy consumption of each kettle.

Bosch Styline Kettle

The Russell Hobbs Emma Bridgewater Kettle is the quietest one we tested. It heats and boils virtually silently, which means you're unlikely to be disturbed if it's used when you're in a call or early in the morning. It's also a treat to look at, with a retro-contemporary design that comes in either a multi-coloured polka dot or a love heart pattern. There's also a matching toaster available, which we really enjoyed testing. The spout of this kettle makes pouring a treat, and the overhead handle is easy to hold and tactile. Saving you time and energy, the Inspire Kettle makes sure you can enjoy a speedy brew in a matter of minutes. In fact, an eco-friendly kettle that can boil water faster will typically use less energy/electricity than a kettle that takes longer too boiler the water.
