On June 28, 1986, WHAM! The Final saw the duo depart in a blaze of glory in front of seventy-two thousand people at Wembley Stadium. The concert included performances by their friend Elton John! In 1982, the best of friends and still teenagers – George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley as WHAM! set out to conquer the world. It was a time that both encapsulated and epitomised not just their youth, but also those of the many millions of fans that adored them.

While the duo wrote most of the material for Fantastic together, both realized that Michael (just barely 20 when the LP hit stores) was becoming a once-in-a-generation talent as a songwriter and studio craftsman. His musical vision propelled the next album, 1984's aptly-titled Make It Big: from the horn-laden sugar rush of "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and the Motown-lite "Freedom" to the brooding "Everything She Wants." (Ironically, the duo wrote one of the album's biggest hits, one that's not included here as it was released in the U.K. as George's debut solo single: the immortal "Careless Whisper.")
