This book is written in way that if you are fan of Michael Crichton books, you will like this one too. It has a narrative style so engaging that I enjoyed a lot the reading experience. Is it just me or does this read like Dan Brown was typing this with one hand? Why does Mr. Stud have the same initials as the author? Why would anyone want a sharp green wit? And is 'fruit shake' some sort of code for a handy? Is that why he is still dripping? It may seem so 'cliché' by the beginning, a typical Hollywood movie where you know they are gonna stop the bomb 3 seconds before it BoooM , and the good Americans wins, the bad whoever foreigner loses.. The topic is quite interesting & having an author perfectly fit the shoes of one so revered (talking, of course about the late great Michael Crichton) is truly magnificent, in my book. This thriller is fast (hooray!) & riveting. It is relevant to modern times & some reviewers have gone as far as calling it plausible. In Deception Point, NASA scientists have discovered an object buried in Arctic ice. The meteorite, once extracted and analysed has the potential to be the greatest discovery of human history as it bears evidence of extraterrestrial life.I thought I will miss Langdon so much, yet there's still touristic historical visits, blowing mind information, not just about Internet and digital codes, but even more. Like the atomic bombs and ,of course, NSA.. which I'm sure not many heard about 15 years ago ,when the novel released and it was Netscape ,when the Internet wasn't that big... This is vintage Dan Brown before his The Da Vinci Code fame. A president on the precipice of losing re-election is about to make a stupendous announcement that may save his presidency and the fate of NASA. I am a huge fan of NASA, maybe an indirect result of being a fan of Star Trek, I don´t know, maybe even it can be due to being even before fan of Lost in Space and Space: 1999. The main point is that I admire a lot to NASA.Forget about solving all these crimes; the signal triumph here is (spoiler) the heroine’s survival.

I succumbed to the hype and read The Da Vinci Code first. Despite the clear flaws I have to admit I found it entertaining. I do not necessarily agree with those who say that fiction must commit to the same high level of integrity to historical or scientific fact as non-fiction. Obviously, good fiction will get the facts right and a story’s ability to get it right can be one criterion by which it is judged. But I would not deny a fiction writers right to speculate, alter or fudge the facts in pursuit of a good story. Again, if they get it very wrong, we can include that judgement in a consideration of the work as a whole. We should not forget that many classic novels have made errors of fact, but we seem to forgive this on the basis that the rest of the work is of a high quality. Also, plenty of non-fiction books are based on theses whose interpretation of facts do not survive criticism well, but again we are more forgiving because of the type of work it is and its objectives. It is the style of writing in The Da Vinci Code that I have the greatest problem with and it is probably that deficiency that makes the errors of fact harder to forgive. However, I felt that although there were a female and a male protagonist, the other characters were also equally strong and because of that the strength attached to the main characters were quite diminished. And also the NASA finding and its deception and the political maneuvering described in the book although was meant as part of the story, I felt the political maneuvering part as a sub plot to the main story line which kind of hindered the smooth flow of the main story. But these minor blemishes did not stop me from enjoying this enthralling tale. The great thing about Dan Brown's novels is the twists he makes, But due to reading this novel after 3 more successful later novels I can predict his twists in this novel,Still he surprised me..One can see that Brown is still tinkering around with his writing style, not always sure where to go and more trying to go futuristic and techy than uchronic and historic. I am heavily biased towards anything Sci-Fi, so I do definitively just give 4 stars because of the setting, without it, it would be closer to a 3. However, Strathmore discovers Digital Fortress, an encryption algorithm written by ex-NSA genius Ensei Tankado, that the TRANSLTR can't break, so he calls in his head of cryptography, Susan Fletcher, to help. The series is produced by CBS Studios, Imagine Television Studios and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie will serve as writers and executive producers for the series. Dan Brown, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Samie Kim Falvey and Anna Culp also serve as executive producers. Having that said, I can't say that Brown's writing style is my favourite. His books usually start off well, but kind of go downhill somewhat at the end. His plot developments are not the best I've come across, although how he comes up with them in the bloody first place is unthinkable. But I must say, there is a significant similarity between the plots in most, if not all, of his books. It doesn't take a cryptologist to figure it out. Now before this I've only read 3 of his books (OK that may be quite a lot already) and my recent awareness of such similarity has indeed taken out most surprises within Brown's novels. The book is quite informative with all research well done. The story line is thrilling. The female protagonist, Rachel Sexton was well portrayed to make her so believable. She is a woman with a strong mind yet she has her own fears which show that she is real, almost human. Her hatred towards her father given his history of infidelity which indirectly caused her mother’s death is almost natural. The male protagonist too has been given equal strength in the book which I found quite refreshing. I am always amazed by Mr. Brown’s ability to develop the characters so well that you feel they are so real and close to your heart. The book also subtly touches on political maneuverings to hold power/ to get in to power which is all too common anywhere in the world.
