About this deal

Hearing loss is a silent issue, one affecting many adults – but as a topic, it hasn’t received the attention it merits. For what it’s worth, codecs are really the only issue here when it comes to audio quality — newer Bluetooth versions since 4.2 have thus far added nothing in terms of audio performance. Bluetooth version alone isn’t the key in any way as there are many great 4.2 products out there that support better codecs. BT version has just been a convenient (but mostly meaningless) spec sheet buzzword in the wireless headphone world. The headphones are also in the in-ear format and are therefore supplied with three pairs of silicone tips. The oval-shaped ear tips allow you to adapt the earphones to the shape of your ear canal. In addition to the ear tips, Sennheiser also provides replaceable ear cups in three sizes to ensure that the Conversation Clear Plus fit snugly in the ear. This approach is reminiscent of Bose’s recent QuietComfort Earbuds II.

Some of these non-audiophile businesses total in the hundreds of millions of euros/dollars annually. Which offers a nice segue into the Communication mode. Switch to this mode and voices are more audible and there’s better awareness of what’s around me. Trying them in a pub, they hit the mark in terms of improving the vocal clarity of others. Sennheiser has integrated large 12mm diameter transducers for the audio part of its headphones. According to the manufacturer, this allows for the reproduction of frequencies from 20 to 20,000 Hz. It should also be noted that the Conversation Clear Plus are only compatible with one Bluetooth audio codec: SBC. With step-by-step guidance in the companion app, getting started with Conversation Clear Plus is easy. In combination with the Conversation Clear Plus app, the earbuds deliver an intuitive, hassle-free user experience for tailoring listening preferences. In concrete terms, the relax mode will analyse the ambient sounds captured by the microphones and perform a phase inversion so that you don’t hear them through the headphones. In other words, this mode will allow you to adjust the external sounds from 0 to 100%. There are a few areas in which the Conversation Clear Plus could be better – and they are fairly fundamental. Those looking for an introduction to hearing enhancement: Conversation Clear Plus are not hearing aids. While they may offer some communication benefits to specific individuals, they work more like smart earbuds. They have some hearing features but sound customization is limited. I also found, as the earbuds are quite big, they were pretty conspicuous. This could put some people off wearing them in public. In the way that modern hearing aids are often so small you can’t tell people are wearing them, slimming down the Conversation Clear Plus would help – even offering them in a lighter colour as well. I also found the tight fit means they can be uncomfortable after wearing them for longer periods.

New Sennheiser wireless earbuds will help you hear in noisy

The app/earbuds can switch between modes on its own with its Automatic Scene Detection, but the execution is also a mixed bag. The feature constantly monitors noise level but that also means it’s constantly switching between various noise cancelling levels, those little chimes become more frequent if you’re in a busy setting, and after a while it distracts. Performance Sennheiser? Ahh yes, they make all of the broadcast headsets we use for on-air programming" - ESPN sound techSennheiser Conversation Clear Plus reflects our customers’ dynamic lives, allowing users to follow every conversation with ease, wherever they are,” says Daniel Holenstein, Sennheiser’s senior product manager. “An independent study showed 95% of users experienced significant speech enhancement in noisy situations when using the product.” Sennheiser already offers an application for its headphones and earphones, Sennheiser Smart Control. The Conversation Clear plus require, however, to go through another mobile application: Sennheiser Conversation Clear. This is listed on the Play Store and App Store as being developed by Sonova, a sign that it is indeed a product designed primarily to help people with hearing loss. True wireless earbuds that are primarily designed to help with hearing difficulties rather than to stream music are becoming more common, and the Sennheiser Conversation Clear Plus come from one of the biggest, most credible brands around. They come at a price, though – and even before they’re set up and doing their thing, it’s hard to understand why they’re as expensive as they are. They’re perfectly adequately built and finished, but they look and feel a lot more ordinary than the asking price suggests they should. If Sennheiser announces up to 9 hours of battery life, I must admit that the battery life that I could measure with these parameters was much longer. The left earpiece went out after 12 hours and 46 minutes. From this point onwards, however, I could no longer use the right earpiece in streaming mode and had to switch to communication mode to use up the last seven battery points, which were lost in 2 hours and 10 minutes. Conversation Clear Plus is also a larger earbud which plugs your ear entirely when worn properly. This means there is potential for the occlusion effect, which refers to the increased perception of your own voice when your ears are plugged. This is often undesirable and described as a “hollow” or “echo” sound quality. Fortunately, the “pass-through” ambient awareness system helps minimize this effect. Conversation Clear Plus also offers active occlusion cancellation (AOC) which further improves the naturalness of your own voice. This element of Conversation Clear Plus was impressive and improved general comfort during long-term wear.

On the inside, the Conversation Clear Plus feature 12mm full-range dynamic drivers with a stated frequency response of 20Hz–20kHz. Battery life is around nine hours in the earbuds themselves, with a further two full charges in the case; from flat to full takes around five hours using the case’s USB-C input. No wireless charging is available. Wireless connectivity is via Bluetooth 4.2, with SBC and AAC codec compatibility. The tech savvy individual: These devices are best suited for those who are mildly tech savvy as the app-based adjustments help you get the most out of Conversation Clear Plus. In addition to these three modes, the application will allow you to update the headphones’ firmware and display their battery level. You can also update the sound profile if the one you initially configured – for volume or clarity level – needs to be more efficient. In concrete terms, the Conversation Clear application is different from Smart Control. It doesn’t offer multiple noise reduction modes, touch controls, or the ability to change the equaliser on the headphones. After a few hearing tests to fine-tune the volume and clarity level, you will have access to three tabs: relax, communication and stream. What's more, is the ease of use - setup seems to be incredibly simple and there's plenty of extra guidance to help you along, particularly within the adjoining smartphone app which has step-by-step directions and a useful FAQ link.

The Conversation Clear Plus boost speech and cancel noise effectively, but a number of issues see them fail to justify their hefty price tag

When used outside it’s a solid buffer on transportation on the streets of London. The transparency mode (which you can switch into by adjusting the slider in the Relax mode) is not the clearest sounding effort. There’s a strange distortion (like what I remember from the Lypertek SoundFree S20) that produces an unnatural hum. Despite that, it does latch on to voices well. The headphone housing can be charged via USB-C using a short USB-A to USB-C cable – no power adapter is included – or inductively via Qi wireless charging. CONCLUSION Sennheiser?
