About this deal

Graphics card compatibility: Graphics cards up to 320mm in length. Graphics cards up to 290 mm in length may be installed if a fan is installed in the lower position in the front. I used this case to build a NAS earlier this year and found that it’s not up to the normal Fractal design standard. Having built my last computer in a Define R5, the Node 804 seems to have some badly thought out features. The next thing to take into consideration is the networking you’d like to use. For most NAS devices, you’ll either use 1GbE (standard on most Motherboards), 2.5GbE, or 10GbE. Depending on the NIC the Motherboard comes with, you might need to ensure the case can handle a networking card in the event that you’d like to increase the networking speeds of the device. It’s hard to review this case without mentioning just how large it is. So let me summarize it like this – this case is for people who do not care at all how their case looks, how portable it is, or how much room it will take up. Fractal Design is a company that manufactures PC cases, fans, power supplies and water-cooled CPU coolers. With their headquarters in Sweden, they pride themselves on listening to their customer base and are always striving to reach their goal of providing functional, efficient and sleek Scandinavian-designed products. They refer to themselves as similar to the IKEA of the PC world and even go on to say “ In the world of computer components, there is only one name you should know, Fractal Design.”

The right-side panel is completely bare. So too is the top panel if you were to ignore the fact that there’s a massive section of perforated holes to vent out and exhaust hot air from four 140mm fans. The rear houses the usual I/O slot for the motherboard, as well as a mount for the ATX PSU, but there are two fans located here instead of just one. Having a look inside from the main chamber and there is plenty of room and options to make sure users are getting the most out of the Node 804 and have an enjoyable experience. If you look closely you can see room for up to 5x fans in the main chamber alone! There is also a nice cutout to help make switching CPU coolers/installation a bit easier and plenty of room to pass cables from the front chamber to the rear and vice versa. Fractal Design’s Node 804 is a mid-tower PC case with support for up to 12 drives. That’s plenty of capacity for NAS use, allowing for up to 240TB if using 20TB drives. You’d assume the case would be on the large size, but Fractal Design managed to make good use of the available internal space to keep the dimensions down. Please keep in mind that while the cases below may support many hard drives, your motherboard must have enough SATA ports to actually use that many hard drives. Please consider purchasing a PCIe SATA/SAS Controller Card if you need additional SATA ports. Rear: 1 - 120/140mm fan (included is a hydraulic bearing 120mm Silent Series R2 fan, 1000 RPM speed)

Minimalistic design with an elegant brushed aluminum front panel Three Fractal Design Silent Series R2 fans included All intakes feature removable dust filters providing a dust-free interior. Featuring a window side panel to show off your set up in style. Fan controller included. Five expansion slots that allows for multiple GPU setups. The main difference between them is that NAS cases are designed to hold multiple hard drives. Since NASs run different types of operating systems (TrueNAS, Unraid, OpenMediaVault), they’re designed to hold large numbers of hard drives for RAID arrays. Overall, the three most important things to ensure are that the case will handle the total number of hard drives you’d like to use in your RAID array ( RAID 1 or RAID 5, RAID 6 or RAID 10, etc), the case supports the Motherboard you’re using, and the case is large enough in terms of potential PCIe expansion cards. With nothing against the 3 speed switch included by Fractal, my personal preference is that the motherboard would be in charge of the fan speed instead of a manually set fan controller. Compared to other PC cases, there’s little difference in the performance of this processor. The available fan mounts ensure ample airflow is achieved, even if the front panel is a little restricting. Fractal Design Node 804: Competition NZXT H7 Elite. (Source: NAS Master) Fans and cooling a concern you say? Not to worry, the Fractal Design Node 804 has you more than covered. It comes with 3x pre-installed fans as standard but there is plenty enough room to add some more of your own if you want. Looking for some water cooling support? Well, the Node 804 has room for 4x 240mm radiators which should be more than enough for any hardware users will be installing inside it. There is room for two of the radiators to be mounted in the front and two more on the top of the case giving users plenty of layout options to get them exactly where they want. Getting to the fun part and it’s time to start taking things apart. This is a look at the top without the vented panel attached. As you can see there is room for a 240mm radiator in either chamber, though if you want to put it in the second chamber you will need to remove the hard drive cages which is easily enough done. If water cooling isn’t your thing you could also just add some fans for a bit better airflow throughout the case.

Packaging and Bundle

As we can see both chambers can house 2x fans on the front and come with separate dust filters per chamber. Fractal Design did not cut any corners when it came to making sure the Node 804 offered optimal airflow and cooling features. The flexibility of this case really gives the users the possibility to create their optimal system build. Dimensions
