About this deal

RAID Ready: WD Red hard drives are engineered with RAID error recovery control to help reduce failures within multi-bay NAS systems, unlike most desktop drives that are configured for generic use. EE Store is a trading style of British Telecommunications Public Limited Company, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Our last series of NAS synthetic benchmarks compare the Synology DiskStations to a single hard drive in a series of server mixed-workloads with a queue depth of ranging from 1 to 128. Each of our server profile tests has a strong preference towards read activity, ranging from 67% read with our database profile to 100% read in our web server profile. In all areas the DiskStations filled with the Western Digital Reds offered strong linear gains as the amount of drives included in the RAID increased. There?셲 a leading edge WD Red drive for every compatible NAS system to help fulfill your data storage needs.Professional solutions - Designed specifically with SMB customers in mind, the WD Red family has expanded with the addition of WD Red Pro, which is available for the 8 to 16 bay medium to large-scale NAS environments. With capacities from 2 to 4 TB, For high performance pool (means SSD ones), i always tried to avoid PCH and prefered PCIe linked directly to CPU. I'm maybe a bit paranoiac. Western Digital’s exclusive NASware™ technology fine tunes drive parameters to match NAS system workloads which helps increase performance and reliability.

If you connect by example 10 SSD, you will be near to load 6G/s * 10 = 60Gb/s = 7.5 GB/s (very theorically, but maybe reach the PCH bus limit ?)

Thank you!

With the new Red hard drives designed for 24/7 home and SMB NAS usage, Western Digital still found ways to improve the power consumption of their new low-power hard drive over previous generation low-power hard drives. Across the board, the new Western Digital Red offered the lowest activity and idle power values. Startup power was slightly higher than the older Caviar Green models, but not by much. Designed specifcally for home and small office NAS systems - WD Red is the only hard drive for 1-8 bay systems The first indicator to detect whether it is a SMR drive is the cache size. But do look for letters EFAX in the serial number this would mean SMR. Old drives (WDx0EFRX) had 64MB cache whereas new replaced drives (WDx0EFAX) feature 256MB. You can also read the serial number on the disk itself and compare it to a table bellow. Ideal for Home Offices, Power Users, Small to Medium Businesses and Consumer/Commercial NAS systems if you are still going around in circles and need direct consultation, we have just started providing one-hour consultations via zoom.
