About this deal

With cumulative rhymes and sunny ink and watercolor illustrations, this international favorite chronicles the escapades of our hero Hairy and his crew of five kooky canines. Here every dog-from big-as-a-horse Hercules Morse to Schnitzel von Krumm with the very low tum-tries to have his day with HAIRY MACLARY'S BONE, but guess who triumphs! The Lynley Dodd Exhibition - Redcliffe Library, 8 December 2017 - 17 March 2018". theredcliffepeninsula.com.au. The Redcliffe Peninsula . Retrieved 12 September 2019.

a b c L.R. (29 January 2014). "Slinky Malinki, Early Bird". New Zealand Doctor: 27. ISSN 1176-5631. Slinky Malinki ends up getting caught in the midst of his naughtiness and experiences the embarrassment and shame of his bad behavior. The illustrations capture his reaction to being caught so well and surely children everywhere can relate to being caught doing something they weren't supposed to do but enjoyed doing a bit to much. It's Christmas in Slinky Malinki's house and the rapscallion, mischievous cat is most curious about the Christmas tree. With its reindeer, ribbons, baubles and bells, it's too tempting a treat for Slinky not to investigate. So Slinky Malinki, with mischievous glee, creeps out from the shadows to climb up the tree . . .

This thieving is a habitual thing rather than a once-off, so I’d say his ‘habit’ is to wait until nightfall when all the humans are asleep, then break into people’s homes and drag stolen items to a hidden place at his owners’. Big Struggle Sometimes a story is not actually magical, but something is infused with a supposed supernatural set of forces. Has Hairy ever caused such mayhem? Thank goodness for Miss Plum, who once again steps in to save the day! They sniffed and they snuffled, they bustled around, and they saw WHAT was making the terrible sound."

The brilliantly clever rhyme and vivid, engaging pictures have made this story into a children's classic, beloved for over 40 years - and it's still one of the most popular picture books today. What is also heart warming in the story is how the family do not respond with family violence to their cat as often can happen with families when humans are disturbed from their comforts... An amazing book. It was so fun to read out loud. I love the word choices. It is a perfect example of a picture book having high vocabulary! Slinky Malinky just comes to life in this story. Lynley Dodd shows how cheeky this cat is, which shines through in the lyrical way she tells the story.Lynley Dodd is an award-winning author/illustrator who lives in New Zealand. She is enormously popular for her rhyming stories of the unforgettable HAIRY MACLARY and his friends. She worked as a teacher before beginning to write her own books in 1974. Told in wonderful rhyme and through pictures full of life and movement, Slinky Malinki is the very first adventure of the rapscallion cat in Lynley Dodd's famous Hairy Maclary and Friends series. This was a fun read. Slinky Malinki is an adorable cat. by day is is fun and playful and at night his naughty, mischievous side appears and boy does this cause trouble! Told in rhyme, this is the story of Slinky Malinki, a cheeky and friendly cat by day, a master pilferer by night. Children will learn about rhythm and rhyme as they follow the hilarious antics of this rapscallion cat. The rich vocabulary of this book broadens its spectrum making it accessible to a larger audience. The hilarious illustrations will charm its audience. This book is entertaining and interactive with plenty of repetition to anticipate and join in with.

I actually read this book for the first time (since I was a child) out loud to my housemate. I tend never to read picture books out loud at the moment and interestingly it made the experience much more fun. Something never to forget when reflecting upon the use of picture books as it can change the way you look at them. This book is hilarious and the illustrations are perfect. What I love most about it though, is that it's great for young readers with the way the story rhymes and repeats, yet it's interesting and keeps your attention as well. Kids can't wait to find out how the story will end. This is one to keep. Regardless, if you're looking for children's books with cats as the main characters, Slinky Malinki is a fun series to explore. The illustrations are fun and colorful and the story has plenty of descriptive language they may not have heard before. It helped expand and develop my kids' vocabulary.Told through playful rhyme and colourful illustrations, Slinky Malinki has delighted generations of children with his laugh-out-loud adventures. Meet Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Donaldson's Dairy, always ready for mischief. In this fabulous set of audio rhyming tales, Hairy Maclary and his friends just want to have fun, but trouble is never far away! What I particularly like about this story is the use of language where everyday items like glue, pens and teddy bears are rhymed into a story and wrapped up with words that are unfamiliar or unusual but their meanings can be extracted, as quite often several words are used to describe an action. The illustrations are detailed and give the reader visual clues to the text and also display emotions and feelings particularly at the end of the story when you can’t help but feel a bit sorry for Slinky. Malinki is based on Dodd's cat, Wooskit, who was with her for 13 years. Slinky Malinki is very silly. [4] The Guardian lists Malinki amongst the top ten cats in children's fiction. [5] Original artwork of him has been part of a travelling exhibition over a number of years, [6] [7] [8] and he is part of a sculpture of some of Dodd's characters at Tauranga.
