Personally, the biggest disappointment of this iO is that it is not much quieter than the other Oral-B brushes. In their marketing, Oral-B kept bragging about a whole new motorized system that was revolutionary with micro vibrations. We thought, surely this will be less harsh and quieter than its cousins, but it still came in right at 70 dB in our tests, which is like a loud conversation. Brushing experience Obviously I wouldn’t do that. But, it’s quite likely I might focus more on one surface than another without realising it. Those models with a display will show a notification on the screen. If connected to the Oral-B app, a notification will be displayed here too for compatible models.
Technically the brushes are nigh on identical, the main difference is the charging stand and charging time. As far as I am aware, the handle and brush heads are made in Germany. The charger and travel case is made in China. Aside from all the bells and whistles the iO 7 advertises, we were most excited to see if it could do the one job an electric toothbrush should be able to do and that is to clean your teeth. You still get a satisfying deep clean of the teeth and gums, but the feeling as the head moves over the teeth isn’t as intense. It’s like the dial for invigorating brushing has been turned down from 10 to 7. The slight harshness that has existed now doesn’t. Does that mean if, for example, when cleaning my upper front teeth I spent all the time cleaning the outside surface (near my lips), and failed to clean the biting surface or inside surface (near my tongue), the iO6 might still think I’d done a good job for that zone?This sensor goes further though, because it will show you when you are applying insufficient force as well as the correct amount. The brushing coach divides your mouth into 6 sections, 3 on top and 3 on bottom, and it is challenging to get all the sections clean in just 2 minutes. I found myself brushing for at least 30 more seconds each time to try to get my cleaning score up. I guess this is a good incentive to brush longer.
The main function of the display is to see and select your different cleaning modes. Given it shows an icon and a text label, this is much more user friendly than the icons only, or no icons of other Oral-B brushes. The Series 9 comes with a power2go charging case that allows the iO to be charged inside whereas the Series 7 comes with a standard travel case.

The case will protect the brush handle from damage and accidental activation, whilst also protecting up to 2 brush heads.
Some might not like it, but it does limit the unsightly white toothpaste residue that can build up on the handle. Even if it does, it’s effortless to rinse off. The iO6 is the best value option.
