About this deal

The coil is a top-of-the-range 6.5 x 9 inch PROformance coil which is surprising for the cheapest in Garrett’s armoury. It’s possible to upgrade the coil at a later date if your kid really gets into detecting but for beginners (and way beyond) this coil is enough. Metal detecting is a great hobby for kids. Not only does it improve concentration levels, but it also encourages them outside to exercise in the fresh air and that’s certainly something all parents are angling for.

The Hello-5ive Metal Detector is a budget-friendly beginner option for kids. It has a simple analogue display, with two adjustable dials – one to turn it on and off, and the other to change which metals are being detected. It can be difficult to drag kids outside for fresh air, especially when they hit the later years of primary school and into secondary. The lure of their games console is almost impossible to resist, but a metal detector tempts kids outside and for that reason alone The Garrett 150 is worth the price. I realise this was a couple of years ago, but I’d like to ask a similar question to Dan (That I don’t see an answer to). The video shows the indicator illustrations in US coins). How does this affect the target ID in the UK, if at all? Obviously we have different coins, and I assume made from different materials. Thanks in advance. A good middle ground is the Garrett ACE 150. This piece of kit is a bank account-friendly metal detector from an excellent brand. It has a simple, uncomplicated design which will appeal to children between the ages of approximately 5 to 10 years old. There are no settings to alter, just a simple on/off switch, meaning they can easily sweep the ground for any metal close to the surface.

Something to be aware of is that it makes a lot of noise when you first turn it on– I figured this was because I was indoors surrounded by lots of metals. In the garden, it calmed down. My son was testing a Garrett ACE 150 and when we got closer than 5-6 metres our detectors started screaming at one another like two grumpy cats.I think that the ace 150 will be a great Xmas gift for your son, but, keep in mind that you should spend some time with him helping to assemble it. Metal detectors can range significantly in how complicated they are to use. Depending on the age of your child, and their interest in the hobby, there are certain features that you may wish to look out for/avoid.

Hiya iv have this ace 250 but when out using it on coin or relic mode it beeps then I pin point then dig and nothings there and when I go over the group again it dosnt beep. Iv had some good finds but mostly it does this which is a waste of time and annoying to say the least. Any ideas why it would falsely beep? The ACE 200 is Garrett’s entry model in the ACE series. Start here if you’re a beginner or want a decent detector for your child. It’s easy to use as it has fewer features to confuse you. Write: DIY Garden (Harris Creative Ltd), Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA Once I’d hit the squealing it was a case of pressing the ‘down’ button until it stopped. This gave me the highest sensitivity without interference.

The modes are factory pre-set but you can adjust them if you want. Starting out I didn’t bother and the detector worked without any issues. I even found a few things! Amazing review Richard, welcome among the detectorists! I hope you can show us your first pictures of what you found, I wish you the best! As with the 150 model great reports of the battery life being very efficient, and the machine itself being very lightweight, the machine weighs 1.2Kg so you will manage to be on all day hunts without becoming too tired or achy. The machine size is adjustable from 42″ to 51″Yes, but you need permission from the owner of the park. Often, this is the local council, so you’ll need to ask them first before you start metal detecting. This also applied to using a metal detector on farmland – you’ll have to get permission from the landowner and agree how and finds will be divided up. It’s a beginner’s model but it has plenty enough features to keep you interested for years, even experienced detectorists would find this a productive machine because it finds metal just as it’s supposed to. Gold nuggets are the dream of course, but it’s unlikely you’ll find one with the ACE 200 as it’s a VLF machine not suited to ‘wild gold’ land. Gold rings, well that’s a different story! Coils
