About this deal

There's also a Really Nasty Motorsports game and a Really Nasty Golf game, I've never seen either though. Someone will need to be chosen as the bookmaker as they will need to take control of the game. We each threw the dice and whoever scored the highest became the bookmaker. Welcome to The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game--the game designed to stimulate your worst instincts and get you to use cunning and deviousness to your best advantage. Where the game gets really interesting (or really nasty) is with the race event cards. These allow players to influence the race beyond dice roles and horse grades. Cards can be used to turn a horse around the wrong way, force them to re-start the race, cause them to fall over at the fences or just have them collapse in the middle of the flat. There are also defensive cards to allow remounts and, in the tumultuous final race, cards that can disrupt or even alter the final outcome such as objections and photo finishes.

Of course, with some traditional games, it is the sheer simplicity that makes them work. For example Jenga, Connect 4 or dominoes don’t need a board and so can be played almost anywhere. You can even find giant versions of these games to play in your garden in the summer months. Do you want your horse to win, if not, what strategies do you put in place? Do you make your horse fall over or, was you not happy with how the race went and demanded a restart?Whether it’s a rainy Sunday afternoon or a raucous festive treat, nothing brings family and friends together quite like a board game. From traditional board game favourites like Monopoly, Scrabble and Cluedo to modern board games like Balderdash, Scatergories and Taboo. Themed Games Many, many hours playing Totopoly in my youth. I still have it and also have sets of Totopoly horses I painted with the popular owner’s colours of the day (early 80s). Will post a pic! At the end of each race the prize winnings are handed out, so players can then use the money accrued to place their bets for the next race. Players can choose not to bet if they’re short of money, in which case they would have to race for the prize money. I like the action, and the player screwage, it makes every race important and the end of the game ensures that everyone is it until the end.

I think that everyone needs one good horse-racing game. Is this one still pretty easy/affordable to locate on the secondary market? It sounds like a hoot. For 3 to 6 players, ages 8 and up. Designed by John B. Reilly and Thomas M. Divoll, published by Avalon Hill. Sarrett, Issue 2.3, Peter. "The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game". Issue 2.3, Spring 1994. The Game Report Online . Retrieved 25 January 2011. The game is played over the course of six races. Players have to rank their horses for each race, based on how well they want to perform. At the start of each race lane cards are drawn at random and odds for the horses are determined. Players then bet on the horse they think will win based on the odds. Therefore, a player may decide to bet on a horse which is not their own, if they feel it has better chances, or would win them more money.Whilst the age range is 12 and over, I suggest being mindful at just how nasty, conniving, deceitful etc. people may get playing this game and if you are worried about upsetting any children playing, then you might not want the to join in. If like us, we did play with the grandchildren but did not play the nasty side of our strategies and was far less cunning. We wanted to the children to enjoy the game have some fun but also teach them about game plans and strategies without being too nasty or conniving. I can never convince enough people to play the Grand National board game with me, however whenever I have played it; it’s always been a blast, with or without house rules (the forums on BGG are a great source of alternative playing styles). I’ve done Becher Chases and Foxhunters too! Remember, be cagey, cunning, whatever it takes to make sure you and your horse wins. You will need your wit about you as you will need to work out the odds when placing your bets too.

Engaging, competitive and above all loads of fun, every family needs a few modern and traditional board games in the cupboard for a rainy day! Top Products in Modern Board & Traditional Games• Trivial Pursuit Lord of The Rings Edition Winning Moves 31462 Game LOTR Onto another favourite part of the game of mine… the set of mischief cards… oh boy did I create mayhem with the others and players in the races The game essentially takes the skulduggery and cheating that goes on in real life horse races and applies it to a board game, making for an interesting and often bad-tempered experience for the players. How to be Nasty We also had escalade but that was nightmare turning the handle thing to make horses move across sheet on flat unit The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game has been around a while, having been on the market since 1987. It was one of the first board games I ever played, and nearly caused my uncle and aunt to divorce while arguing over the rules during one memorable Christmas. There is also prize money awarded for each race. Some races are more prestigious with more prize money on offer. Your horse will need to come first, second or third, but if you are anything like me, there is no competition as my ultimate goal was to make sure my horse came first. There was 4 of us playing and took us around 90-120 minutes. Between wine and other alcohol breaks, it all added to the fun, devilish and devious plans. It does come down to rolling well, but there is plenty of tension and plenty to do to complicate things for others or to help yourself. We haven't even played that often, but this game is a gem.

Before you start the game, each player must make the commitment on which horse will run in which race. Many of the traditional board games have moved with the times to try to stay relevant and interesting. For example, you can now get Risk in a Game of Thrones version, Monopoly set in the Star Wars galaxy and Trivial Pursuit in a range of themes. You start the game with a stable of horses numbered from one to six, with one being the fastest. During the race the players move their horses around the board, either trying to reach the finish line before the others or attempting to make sure the horse they bet on finishes first. How fast a horse moves depends on their grade, which is assigned at the beginning of the race and gives them a certain amount of leeway with dice roles, also giving players clues on who to bet on depending on the size of the stakes. Grades revolve with each subsequent race, so every horse gets to be the fastest horse at least once. We were sent The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game from University Games to try out. As it is a game for ages 12 and up, I waited until I could get my grown-up nephew and my parents to help with the review.I am extremely competitive, think monopoly for frustration and competitiveness and times that by 10, this game really did bring the worst out it me. Also, for a roll and move with I found this to be a million miles above what I consider to be a real 'stinker in silk', Magical Athelete). Okay that's not a horse racing game, so that's an unfair comparison, but they are both light race games with screw you aspects. The only other horse racing game I had was the small copy of Knizia's Royal Turf, which was fun but got old fast.
