About this deal

This is where the two films showed the biggest difference. When a film is underexposed, the darker shadow tones will become unrecoverable. Whether you’re an avid Portra 400 user and are looking to experiment with other speeds, or are seeking out your very first Portra roll and aren’t sure which to start with – you’ve come to the right place! It’s common knowledge at this point that to get the best results from Portra 400, you have to over-expose by a stop or two. Having the excellent exposure latitude it does, it retains its highlights very well and gives loads of detail in the shadows. Not only that, but its color will slightly wash out giving that lovely palette everyone is crazy about right now.

Kodak Portra 400 35m 36exp Film Professional 5 Pack

This film is mostly designed for the way it renders skin tones. If you’re photographing someone with darker skin tones, balance it out with a silver reflector. Looking in the tree, there is a lot more shadow detail in the Portra 400 photo on the right than there can be found in the Lomo 400 photographs. Underexposure testKodak Portra of all sorts is a negative film. Typically, it’s light hungry. Meter for the shadows on someone’s face if you’re using it for portraiture. Otherwise, it’s not a bad idea to give it up to a stop more of light. On your camera, use the +1 exposure compensation setting.

Kodak Portra 400 35mm film review | Digital Camera World

Kodak Portra 160 is situated at the lower end of the speed spectrum at ISO 160. It’s meant for bright days, direct sunlight, and ultra fine grain. The early morning, before sunrise shots: Porta 400 / Summicron 35mm ASPH Ektar / Summicron 35mm ASPHMajority of my photography is landscape. Because of this, I’m drawn to the richer films like Fuji Superia, Ektar, and even Gold and Ultramax. Portra 400 isn’t exactly the film I get excited to shoot seeing as it’s not as saturated. Hi SROYON, in your test I couldn't understand some things. I was able to understand the test for whites, but… Starting it off with Cinestill’s most popular film, Cinestill 800T brings cinematic converted film to the masses. Being made from converted Kodak Vision3 500T cinematic film, the process involves the removal of an anti-static ‘Remjet’ layer. The removal of this is what leads to 800T’s dreamy glowy halation around light sources – you can see for yourself through the many Cinestill 800T photos out there! And finally some images where the saturated colours of Ektar work really well (and the top featured photo of this post was also shot on Ektar): Ektar / Summilux 50mm Ektar / Summicron 35mm ASPH Ektar / Summilux 50mm
