Cleaning crumbs is now as easy as “Roomba, clean under the kitchen table”. This intuitive experience only from iRobot means that a request to your voice assistant* or via the iRobot Home App enables the Roomba® i7/i7+ Robot Vacuum to clean up mess for you, right when it happens – immediately clean that spot and consider it done.

Type A robot vacuum cleaner only, there are no mopping features here. Its Clean Base means you don’t have to manually empty the bin To see how well the iRobot Roomba i7+ can clean, I put it through Trusted’s standard set of tests. First, I sprinkled an ‘X’ of flour onto my test carpet. Although the i7+ moved over the area properly, it wasn’t powerful enough to pull up all of the mess. As you can see from the pictures below, the robot cleared the top-level dirt, but couldn’t pull out the final traces of flour that were deeper in the carpet pile. The percentages may seem relatively low at first, but the result is excellent compared to other top models. The Roomba i7+ scans your home’s floor plan, so it theoretically knows your home once it finishes its first trip. You also don't have to learn a sentence by heart and recite it the same way over and over again. The voice control is very sophisticated, and your Roomba i7 Plus understands variations of voice commands.

Furthermore, the smart vacuum cleaner robot also has a convenient carrying handle (4), so you can easily carry it from floor to floor. Once you have a map, you can split it into rooms, and set no-go and no-clean areas. If you really want, then there’s also the old-fashioned battery-powered barrier in the box: set it to a line or radius mode, and plonk it where you don’t want the robot to go. I think managing the map is easier. The clean base has the following dimensions: height: 48 cm (18.9 inches) x depth: 15 cm (5.9 inches) x width: 18 cm (7 inches).

The Roomba i7 Plus doesn’t have an automatic carpet detection function. Thus, it also doesn’t increase the suction power automatically when it drives on a carpet.Once you have the rooms sorted, you can get the robot to clean just a specific room or your entire house. The same goes for scheduling, so you can clean different parts of your home at different times. Although the vacuum cleaner has controls on top of it to set it off, it’s best engaged through the app once you’ve connected the robot to your Wi-Fi network. Before you can use the full power of the app, you need the robot to create a map of your home.

It doesn’t provide the deepest clean, then, but the iRobot Roomba i7+ is still a good robot cleaner. It will deal with standard mess around your home, particularly if used regularly, requiring you to use a manual vacuum cleaner less often. What you get here is regular maintenance cleaning: the Roomba i7+ will cope with most daily spills, but you’ll need to take out your standard vacuum cleaner once a week or so to fully deal with your home. But the Roomba i7 Plus Robot Vacuum also offers excellent performance paired with premium features.

You can operate the following touch screen buttons at the robot vacuum’s top: " Clean" (2) (start/stop cleaning process), " Home" (3) (return to charging station) and " Spot Clean" (1) (clean one precise spot). The device has an excellent finish and looks very classy. The materials used seem to be of very high-quality. When the iRobot Roomba i7 came out, it wasn’t possible to create no-go zones. iRobot released an update for that afterwards, which is why the virtual wall is kind of out-of-date these days :) The Roomba i7+ looks an awful lot like its predecessors at first glance, but contains so many more differences once you flip the machine upside-down. Before getting into that, one thing about the vacuum’s shell that’s markedly different here is that the LED now blinks and shines different colors depending on its current state. Oh yes - don't forget to open all the doors. Now the robotic vacuum cleaner can reach every spot in your home.

The Roomba i7+ does a great job here, too, and removes 60% of the sand on the short carpet and 70% on the higher carpet. In terms of noise I measured the iRobot Roomba i7+ at 65.1dB, which is about average for robot vacuum cleaners. It’s loud, but not to a level that it’s distracting. With 3300 mAh, a somewhat smaller lithium-ion battery and thus shorter battery life (approx. 75 minutes)You can also set up individualised cleaning schedules. For example, you can let the i7 Plus clean the kitchen and living room on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9 a.m.
