About this deal

I don't think the drive has to be a CE drive in particular. You need a 3.5" SATA (not SATA III) that is less than 750GB (I would say doubling your capacity to 320GB is enough and would be safer). I'm suspecting an internal battery may have gone as this seems to fit the behaviour, but I'm surprised upcoming programs would be stored in memory and not on the drive? We were also surprised by the level of fan noise. It is noticeable whilst the PVR is switched on which encourages you to switch it off if you don’t have to be using it – another good reason for using the aerial loop through.

I have had a look on a couple of forums and think that maybe I need to upgrade the firmware, but I don't have any cables. I am not aware than anyone else has posted any detailed quantitative data on there results or reported direct comparison with the same recordings on different PVRs. It would be interesting to see such comparisons. Thanks for replying. I found a thread on DS about the 9300 which has the same problem but there was an interesting post which claimed that it was noted that the cooling fan was not operating and after replacing the fan it fixed the problem:

If you get all all recordings starting like the example you described then I'm surprised and can't offer an explanation. I would say that at least 50% of my recordings are further into the programme than that. The main frustrations for me are the incredibly slow EPG. It takes ages to populate. I had a TVonics PVR previously and that cached the EPG while turned off which the 9150 doesn't. Therefore the EPG on the TVonics was there straight away. Even my TV manages to remember the EPG when I turn it off and has it instantly visible when I need it. The installation process isquite straightforward but ratherslow. The PVR searches out available stations before allowing you to delete those that hold no interest -- and you'll probably find there's quite a few of those on Freeview. The hard drive is a relatively modest 160GB, equating to around 100 hours of standard-def TV. Go easy on the season linking because this PVR will fill up fast. The obvious one is movement of the aerial in the wind if it is on the roof. If it is in a loft then have you moved stuff around in the loft or put more stuff up there?

Both boxes frequently crash even when not in use, resulting in programmes not being recorded, as i am unaware this has happened. The other irritation is the layout of the remote. It has a sliding flap covering several minor controls. Amongst which is the one to call up the recorded programme list. Of course you are rarely going to need that and would much prefer the five button press method involved using the fully visible controls! Has something changed? For me, missing the beginning of programs is far less frequent than it used to be. The current series of Masterchef for example always starts recording correctly at the BBC2 logo whereas the previous series always seemed to start half way through the introduction of the contestants.Actually there are several members of the fair sex on here who are clued up on PVR technology and like ourselves have seen a good part of the 20th century. If I had a suitable older slower 500GB drive in my pc then I'd be upgrading the pc, making it a fair bit faster and using the pc drive for the pvr, just a thought for the more technically minded. If you are interested the post here lists the data I got comparing my Humax 9200 with a Vestel PVR. Beauty Advent calendars are significantly pricier than chocolate ones, but they've become increasingly popular in the last few years as a way of bagging beauty products at a fraction of the normal cost. They often sell out early, but can also be heavily discounted later if they don't, so here's a round-up of some of the best I’ve seen.

Now my 9150T is working like a goodun can I just remove the 160gig hard drive and replace it with a 500gig sarta drive and just format it, at the moment the hard drive is empty it would be a great time to make it better Auto-tuning works well and had no problem finding all the available channels and radio stations. The 8-day programme guide is core to the functioning of the PVR and is populated with information being broadcast, although it seems to go through this process each time it starts, so you don’t have instant access to the full EPG, which can be a pain and slow you down if you want to set-up a recording as you fly out of the door.Given that there is a hard limit of 511 recordings , can someone recommend what the best replacement hard drive would be? I believe it needs to also be CE standard. Under the hood, essentially, you’ll find twin Freeview tuners and 160GB of hard disk drive and this is where the real contest is fought. It is not the biggest of drives, but for those looking to record on an ad hoc basis this is more than adequate, giving you about 100 hours of television recording. I live in N.Wales which is undergoing transmission problems, but this has been occuring for days now.
