About this deal

The main topic of the book is a current event that’s also an important social issue. The role of the police in society is debated, both figuratively and literally. The catalyst this time involves the shooting of a gang member by a policeman trying to stop a shootout between opposing gangs. The boy isn’t seriously hurt but it ignites deep feelings by people with conflicting thoughts. One side thinks the police are murderers and that their excessive use of force is a threat to citizens. The other view thinks the police are honest and caring and they’re trying to do their best in difficult situations. The author effectively shares ideas from both sides in an intriguing tale about a real-life problem. Ali is smart, tenacious, and loyal. He doesn't always do what he's told (like when he sneaks out at night to save a friend, or gets on his PS4 when he's grounded, also to save a friend) but accepts the consequences when it catches up with him. There's a notably high trust level between Ali, his siblings, and their parents, and his father in particular is notable for being kind and positive even when it's a real struggle. Ali's friends are also very loyal -- and don't hesitate to let him know when he's made the wrong choice (or even the right one that still has bad repercussions). One kid commits burglaries because his father and brother threaten him. On November 25, 2019, James Patterson published Ali Cross, the first novel in the Ali Cross series.

I hadn’t known him that long—only since the beginning of middle school. But we got to be friends right away. I saw him in the cafeteria one day, eating by himself and working on a pretty cool drawing. I mentioned something about it, and that’s when I found out he was a total Outpost fan, like me. Ever since then, we’d been gaming together, he’d come over to watch movies, and that kind of thing. But he never talked about himself much, and I never really asked. Now I was thinking maybe I should have. Ali’s desire to become a much respected detective like his father (Alex Cross) still burns brightly inside him. His friend Gabe has developed an app that feeds into local police radio, sending texts and notifications to Ali at all times, day and night. This allows Ali to follow his passion as he and Gabe observe crimes in progress. Hemos leído este libro en el club de lectura middle-grade de la Libroteca #LosCazalibros y la verdad es que nos ha gustado mucho. With a detective for a dad and knowing other officers, Ali struggles with all of the anger against the police force, but he knows the community is right too, in many situations.

Ali Cross is something of an Alex Cross book for kids. Ali is Alex Cross's youngest child. He's a whip smart and precocious middle schooler. When Ali's friend Gabe goes missing, Ali decides to conduct his own investigation into his disappearance. Meanwhile, Alex is on desk duty while awaiting trial for an accident that happened to a civilian while on the job. When I heard that the story was about Alex’s son, I thought it would be a Children’s story. How wrong I was! Did you know you can flag iffy content? Get started Close Why is it that James Patterson's children and YA books are better written than his most recent adult thrillers? I don't know the answer to the question, I'm just asking to see if anyone knows the answer. Now the Yang family was suing Dad and the police department for assault. Maybe also for murder, depending on whether Mr. Yang survived.

Ali Cross (Ali Cross, 1) by James Patterson | Goodreads

There's a substory about Alex being sued by the family of a man he possibly shoved and put in a coma (Alex says he slipped). I have no idea if this is part of a story from the Alex Cross books, but it won't matter to MG readers because it's explained well enough for them without requiring them to have read another book. Main character Ali aspires to be a member of the police force and is caught between the hurt and anger of his neighbourhood, and the good work he knows his detective father and his colleagues perform. Let’s try that again,” Father Bernadin said in his Haitian accent, and with a kind of impatient smile aimed my way. “The annual Christmas Eve children’s prayer will be led by our own Ali Cross tonight. Ali, would you like to come up?” During a summer in coastal Maine, the kids of Spruce Point work to break a ghostly curse and save a family inn. A spotlight hit my eyes then, and another camera popped up, pointing right at me and my sister. That’s when I heard Jannie let out a sob. And even though I’m the youngest, I wasn’t going to let them do that to her. Or to anyone in my family.Alex’s son Ali may not be the most athletic in the family, but he is keen to follow in his Dad’s footsteps as a detective. When I looked at the words on that paper, it was like they didn’t mean much. Not compared to being alone out there on the street, or kidnapped, or whatever else Gabe might have been going through. Alex's son Ali is eager to follow in his father's footsteps as a detective, but when his best friend goes missing, what price will he have to pay to solve the mystery?
