About this deal

The Borea BR09 has two motorised 16cm fibreglass drivers that operate in a large bass-reflex enclosure to produce bass frequencies with much more power and accuracy, as low as 35Hz. DVAS System Soundstaging was very good too. Tchaikovsky's Symphony 1 in G Minor, op.13, and Dreams of a Winter Journey (Allegro tranquillo) played by the Berliner Philharmoniker with Herbert von Karajan at the helm, was an atmospheric joy. I was also impressed by the explosive dynamics. The passage starts with a soft, almost enchanting melody on bassoon and flute, which could have you increasing the volume as it's so delicate. However, as the strings start to swirl and a second melody is introduced, you soon find yourself amidst a vast brass fanfare. That escalation takes less than two minutes, and the BR08 kept up with every step change. The Borea BR09 exhibits a balanced and natural tonality, with a slight warmth that makes it enjoyable for long listening sessions. The speaker’s accurate frequency reproduction, excellent soundstage, and precise imaging combine to create аn engaging and emotionally captivating listening experience that appeals to casual listeners and discerning audiophiles. The tweeter of the Borea range is equipped with a next-generation system called EFS (Efficient Flow System).

Such programme material was also a good test of timing, as the Borea displayed plenty of energy and pace when required. In the slower movements of the symphony, I was aware of the excellent coherence with which this speaker treated the ensemble – and this was the case whether it's an orchestra or jazz trio you're playing. It's as if the BR08 lets the source and amp do all the hard work and then graciously hands you the results. Equipped with a 25mm EFS silk done tweeter, this Borea speaker produces a smooth yet detailed top-end response. This lets you hear fine detail without the sound becoming harsh or grainy – even at higher volume levels. To some, the front of the speakers may look a tad unbalanced, with the ports a little cramped next to the mid-bass driver. However, with the magnetic speaker grilles, there is always the option of covering them up.

Conclusion

It’s all good sport of course, but as an argument it fails to account for the overheads of employing design and production staff, providing a building for them to work in and equipment to work with, marketing and advertising, a dealer margin of perhaps 40%, plus service and support. If you get a chance to hear them and are in the market for a fun loudspeaker that won’t break the bank, then do so. AT A GLANCE Triangle’s Boreo BR09’s 25mm silk dome tweeter has next generation Efficient Flow System technology for the improvement of high frequencies dispersion and to avoid directional audio flow so that the sound is even across the room. The Triangle Borea BR09 is the largest floor-standing speaker and indeed the largest most powerful speaker in the whole range. Set up in a 3-way configuration with a transducer dedicated to each frequency range to diffuse all frequencies with no interference, this allows for each driver to precisely deliver audio with accuracy and detail. Bass aside, the cohesion across the system is quite strong. The bright buzzing of the demented fairy in Pan's Labyrinth zips seamlessly between channels with insect-like naturalism, while voices shifting to the rear, such as in the opening scene of Gravity, are also nicely consistent.

Triangle Borea BR09 has a Bass Reflex type cabinet. Bass Reflex type loudspeakers (aka Ported, Vented or Reflex Port) have enclosures that uses a port, hole or vent cut into the cabinet. Ported designs are generally more efficient than the Sealed designs. The main stereo pair of BR08 floorstanders have a three-way crossover with two 16cm fibreglass-coned bass units, a 16cm midrange driver, and a 25mm silk dome tweeter. Both Borea BR09 and Borea BR08 have front firing ports. front ported speakers offers more flexibility in placement in regards to proximity to walls&surfaces compared to rear ported speakers. Physical Specs Under the veneer, there are big changes to the internal damping and bracing of the loudspeaker. Triangle claims that “Significant research has been carried out to reduce the internal vibrations in the cabinet.” This means Triangle uses perforated internal MDF stiffening panels that also use EVA foam gaskets between drive unit and cabinet, thus stiffening the transducer/cabinet combination. Triangle has dubbed this DVAS (Driver Vibration Absorption System), as it aims to reduce vibration of the suspension system of the drive unit interacting with the cabinet itself. We’ve had drive units bolted to the rear of the cabinet before, we’ve even had the driver bolted to a bar that connects to the rear cabinet, but to the best of my knowledge, a system that uses a foam gasket in this manner is a first. Sensitivity93dB of Triangle Borea BR09 is considered a high sensitivity compared to average stereo speaker which makes Borea BR09 an easy to drive from Sensitivity perspective. If you are planning to power your speaker with a Tube amp which are generally very low power, the Triangle Borea BR09 will be a good choice. I love them and 100% recommend, as ever Richer Sounds Exeter came up trumps and I've shopped with RS for 30 years now, there really is no other place to buy them. Triangle Borea BR09 Speakers (Pair) are 3-way floor-standing speakers; the largest of the Borea floor-stander range. The flagship BR09’s are perfect for larger sized rooms due to it’s delivery of low-end frequencies and low-power handling. Why the BR09 Speakers?
