Have you tried to buy a plant lately? If so, you’ll know the normally serene world of garden centres is engulfed in a maelstrom at the moment. This technique is only suitable for shrubs that grow vigorously, such as Cotinus, Cornusand Prunus tenella. At New Shoots, each week focuses on a different aspect of the five steps to mental wellbeing – physical activity, learning new skills, connecting with others, giving, and mindfulness. The course culminates in a visit to a local garden or place of interest chosen by the group.

In pots without drainage holes, water and nutrients can accumulate far from the new roots of the plant, which can lead to root rot and other problems.
