About this deal

For those working in a niche that requires them to sit at a desk while using this microphone, there is a need for an adjustable arm boom if you want to get the best out of the Neewer NW-700 microphone. This 3.5-minute recording was made with the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Orchestra at the George Washington Masonic Temple auditorium in February 2016. It was recorded with a crossed-cardioid configuration in 24-bit/48 kHz sampling and transcoded to 16-bit/44.1 kHz in Audacity, with only LF equalization. The acoustics are not ideal, as the mics had to be placed on a low stand at the front of the seating area, but the recording gives you an idea of what the NW-700 can deliver. Dynamic microphones produce a more standard broadcast sound, like that of a radio. So the sound you want will make you choose between these two options, and either will work if you understand your needs. What Are The Differences Between A Dynamic And Condenser Microphone?

One advantage an electret has is its intrinsic charge, which eliminates the charging resistor, as shown on in Fig. 3. Either way, a fixed charge is maintained across the capacitor.Recordings made with the NW-700 are generally quite good. On symphonic recordings made on high stands, there is noticeable low-frequency rolloff, but this was easily compensated with equalization during post-recording edit. The noise level of the NW-700 is not as good as expensive microphones (those costing 10 to 100X more) but it is acceptable, even for orchestral recording. As we always try to help as many of our readers as possible, we have decided to publish our dedicated, ultimate Neewer nw700 review to help any of our readers who are considering adding the Neewer nw700 to their collection of camera accessories. On the flip side of that though, the microphone is also an excellent budget-friendly option for singers, musicians, podcasters, and pretty much anyone else who needs a solid little cardioid microphone that is budget-friendly. Although small, cheap cardioid microphones that offer some great performance have been popular for decades, with the increase in people getting involved in online streaming, YouTube videos, and becoming social media influencers, we have noticed more and more people reaching out with a bunch of questions around various different types of entry-level microphones. With the Neewer nw700 being one of the most popular entry-level microphones on the market with an absolutely massive customer base, it is not surprising that we have noticed so many people reaching out with questions about this excellent little mic. The mic will not work if you plug it directly into your computer; it needs to run into a power source then into your computer.

On the right, the NW-700 provides the balanced output through an XLR connector at the base of the mike. To “power” our example, a 48 volt DC battery is assumed, which is connected through resistors to Pins 2 and 3 of the XLR connector. A resistor value of 6.8k ohms is a standard value for 48 volt “phantom” systems, although many preamps supply lower voltages and may use lower resistor values.

Protecting sensitive elements against wind interference when using this microphone is another enviable feature of this microphone. It uses its wind foam cap to ensure all of its sensitive elements are well protected. Considering the price, it’s reasonably solid (I mean, it could be made of plastic, so), but it’s definitely not a mic that feels like it was hand-crafted by German engineers, by any means. Build quality: Bottom Line The specifications from Neewer say that the NW 700’s polar pattern is a cardioid. However, looking at the image provided (above), it looks to me to be closer to an omnidirectional mic. It is not unusual for electret microphones to have a rated output of –40 dB relative to 1 volt measured at sound pressure of 1 Pascal (Pa), which is 94 dB SPL. The signal level produced by an electret element under these conditions is calculated to be: To be frank, neither of these frequency response graphs looks particularly smooth, natural, or open.
