About this deal

Uplevel your table decor this Easter season by making your own candle holders in the shape of daffodils.

Ideally, you’ll use something like a clout nail to attach the ribbon as it has enough surface area to hold the ribbon firmly in place.

Want to save more time

There are loads of them around where I live and it’s lovely to see the bright colours when I’m out walking my dogs.

Do NOT glue this next layer to the bottom green – just glue the four pieces of it to each other along the overlap of each piece. These crafts might need a little more preparation but are super fun for little ones. The hands-on crafts focus on the process rather than the outcome making them fabulous for toddlers and young preschoolers. Cut some early narcissus from the garden or buy a couple of bunches from a florist. A few different shades will add interest to your wreath. Cut a handful of short stems of early blossom – the cherry plum, Prunus cerasifera has very early, elegant flowers. Keep wrapping the stem to the bottom of the wire. Tear off the paper, add a dot of glue to the paper strip, and secure it.

Position the final four green pieces on top of the wreath and glue them together where the pieces overlap.

To make the daffodils for this daffodil wreath, you’ll need egg boxes. You can either find the egg boxes yourself, or ask your children to bring in their own. This craft is a great way of stopping egg boxes from going to waste, in fact, why not use this craft alongside a lesson about recycling? Don’t get me wrong, I love the few house plants we do have and they’re all holding up well enough so far but there’s something about fresh flowers that I can’t seem to resist, especially around this time of year when the first warm rays of sunshine start to make an appearance and I pretty much buy every tulip I can get my hands on. Using the template as a guide, cut out petals, trumpets/tubes, and stigmas from your yellow, white, and orange crepe paper. Each flower needs six petals, one trumpet, and one stigma. Your kit has plenty of paper to cut out seven flowers. Fold the stigma paper in half so that the short sides touch and then glue and wrap around one of the short pieces of wire.

Cut the narcissus so that the stems are approximately 8cm in length. Make sure you keep the stems in water until the moment you are ready to attach them. Make sure your moss is damp so the daffodils can absorb moisture from it. Pad out your twine wreath base with clumps of moss, attaching it using wire. You want the moss to create a firm, living wreath structure ready to add your flowers to. You can buy this part ready made if you'd prefer – see products above. Tip: Once your daffodil wreath has passed its best, gently take it apart, keeping all the wire attachments and wreath base for your next floral display. Make sure there is as little waste as possible. When adding the foam pads to the relevant layers, make sure you add some in the middle of the pieces of card so it give stability to the middles. If you don’t add any foam pads in the middles then it can “sag” under the weight of the other layers which doesn’t look as good. I love how the pipe cleaners are twisted into simple spirals to made the petals and middle of this iconic flower.

Time for the stem! Cut some of your green paper into long strips, making sure that the crepe paper’s grain is perpendicular to the length of the strip. This means that the strips will stretch out really long. You will need one strip for each stem. You’ll need a polystyrene ring as the base for your wreath, some wool felt, embroidery thread, scissors, needles and pins, a glue gun and a couple of other craft stash basics to make your own wreath for spring.

Use shades of white, yellow and red orange paper and some florist wire, glue and scissors to craft these stunning springtime flowers. Don’t forget that you can see our full front door makeover with lots of before and after pictures here. All of our resources are made by our wonderful team of teachers and designers. This means that you can use these resources with your children knowing that they’re trustworthy, easy to use, and are going to help inspire your children’s learning. What do daffodils symbolise?
