About this deal

The subject of this detailing video is a classic Porsche Boxster and pretty much all of the trim in question was in desperate need of some refurbishment. Wing mirror surrounds, window trim, engine bay, wipers etc all providing the perfect opportunity to showcase exactly why Gtechniq C4 is quite the step up from most trim restoration products. Gtechniq C4 – Unrivalled Durability Nothing makes all your hard work after perfecting the paint look more incomplete then old faded trim. I seem to have a weak spot for trying lots of different trim coatings, and I must say that Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer certainly has become one of my favorites to use since trying it. As with most of the trim coatings on the market, C4 is claiming a durability of roughly 24 months. Product Description

It has made a noticable difference to the slightly faded plastics and even got rid of one minor stain - plastics have a lustre added to them. What this means is that you now have a protective coating of unparalleled durability. Unlike many trim products on the market C4 is an exceptionally thin (circa 30nm) optically clear film which means that it does not add an unattractive gloss film to the surface instead it restores all but the most faded trim to an as new condition. You can expect approximately 2 years from a single application. C4 uses a covalent or chemical bond to actually become an extension of the plastic molecule it is protecting. C4 actually swaps part of its molecular structure with the surface molecules of your car's trim to provide a protective coating of unparalleled durability. Before starting ensure you have enough product for all intended trim surfaces. E.g For a Mini (30ml) you will require more product compared to a Golf (15ml)Unlike many trim products on the market, C4 is exceptionally thin (circa 30 nanometers) optically clear film – this means it will not add an unattractive gloss finish to the surface. Instead, it restores all, but the most faded trim to an ‘as new’ condition. It is ideal for new trim, helping to prevent fading.

The guidance says to apply with a make-up remover pad and to wipe off with a microfibre towel. That towel should be an old towel because this stuff crystallises into the fabric of the towel rendering it pretty useless for other tasks. Having coated my laptop at work on Friday, I was used to the drill and decided to deviate slightly ... Suitable for use on the trim found on bumpers, windows, wing mirrors, doors, mud-flaps, engine bays etc

Car plastic restorer tips

Ensure the surface(s) you are going to coat are free from any contaminants. For best results clean trim with a neat solution of W2 APC Universal Cleaner Concentrateand if required use a medium stiff brush

Why use Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer? C4 utilises a covalent or chemical bond to become an extension of the plastic molecule it's protecting. Not to be confused with much weaker electrostatic bonds used by, amongst others, ptfe based polymers C4 swaps part of its molecular structure with the surface molecules of your car's trim. What this means is that you now have a protective coating of unparalleled durability. Unlike many trim products on the market C4 is an exceptionally thin (circa 30nm) optically clear film which means that it does not add an unattractive gloss film to the surface instead it restores all but the most faded trim to an as new condition. You can expect up to 2 years durability from a single application. Because the coating forms its bond immediately it is very important to remove excess coating from the treated surface and any that has gone onto the vehicles bodywork or glass within 5 minutes of application Park your car in a garage when at home and try and park it in a shaded area when you’re away from home.I have a few areas which I had ear-marked for the C4 treatment, or coating I should say: wing mirrors, windows surrounds, rear light clusters, rear number plate surrounds and wheel arch flares. The rest of the "plastics" on our cars are actually painted and lacquered. Using a heat gun to heat up the trim can bring out the oils in the plastic. However, all plastics are different and only so much oil can be taken from the plastic. It would also be best to test on a hidden piece of plastic before you attempt visible areas.

C4 uses a covalent or chemical bond to actually become an extension of the plastic molecule it's protecting, swapping part of its molecular structure with the surface molecules of your car's trim to provide a protective coating of unparalleled durability. Revitalise tired and faded trim such as those found on wing mirror surrounds, windscreen wipers/trim, bumpers, mud-flaps, engine bays and more. Use the AP1 Lint-free Applicator supplied to spread the coating onto the surface of your trim. Soak the pad with several drops of product Please excuse some of the dirt in the pictures - I washed the cars on Friday night and they've been out in the rain yesterday, but the areas that have been treated were pre-cleaned with neat IPA. Make sure you wash and dry the area:Ideally, you'd do a exterior plastic trim restore session after a car wash anyway, but make sure the plastic surface area you plan to apply your choice of trim restorer product to is thoroughly cleaned and dried before using any of these products. Using peanut butter to restore faded plastic is a popular method but not necessarily the best. The oil in the peanut butter provides the restoring effects but at the same time makes a mess and produces a strong smell.

Plastic Restorer Comparison

A quality trim restorer will do more than just dye the plastic or sit on top, both of which are superficial, temporary solutions to your problem and will wash away in the slightest rain.
