About this deal

TWW: You traveled over to France to pull this all together. What are you looking for in a partner over there? Have you ever named your partner? AP: Did you find that you had to work ten times harder, even within the layers of the corporations in which you’ve worked? The inspiration behind this notion of identity and nontraditional whiskies was a sip of Yamazaki 18, a Japanese single malt. Patel describes herself as a “late bloomer” who didn’t try alcohol until well after most of her peers knew their way around a bar. But when the Japanese whisky hit her lips, the experience was her “hook.” TWW: You’ve been doing this now eight-ish years or close to that. How do you feel the brand has done for you both personally and professionally?

Made from organic barley and aged in French Limousin oak casks, Brenne's single malt whiskeys offer a smooth and sophisticated taste experience. With notes of tropical fruit, honey, and subtle spice, they're a delightful departure from traditional whiskey styles. Distinct flavors and commitment to quality make Brenne a must-try for whiskey enthusiasts seeking something truly special. Expand your whiskey horizons with Brenne's single malt expressions. Get To Know Brenne Whiskey The Estate Cask Single Malt initially matures in French Limousin oak barrels, then finishes in previously-used Cognac casks, which imparts a distinct flavor profile. It's a sophisticated, elegant single malt with 40 percent alcohol by volume (abv) that showcases French distillation artistry and innovative aging techniques, providing a truly distinct drinking experience. TWW: You are doing a lot of things which are driven by local consideration, in terms of the ingredients you’re using, and hat kind of gets that sense of terroir. Talk a little bit about what terroir means to you from a whisky perspective. It’s pretty well known by folks about wine, but for whisky, it’s a little more of a newer concept.Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. Even aside from its obviously different taste ( see our review), Brenne stands out from other craft whiskies aesthetically, too. The slim bottle and robin’s egg blue label are more indicative of a wine than a whisky, but Patel explains Brenne’s soft appearance as intentional.

First off nothing can be a “Scotch just made in another country” because Scotch a term that only applies to whisky made, aged and bottled in Scotland. Single malts, grain whisky, blends, vats, bastard malts and any other variation or type of whisky that might come from Scotland are all Scotch. You can’t make a Scotch in a different country. Brenne 10 is the older, and higher proofed, sibling of the original Brenne which has been a divisive dram in the whisky world. Some people absolutely love it while others, like myself, can’t stand it and I think a lot of it comes down to if you’re a sweet person or not. Me, I’m salty-savory which is why I like big oaky bourbons, peated islay whisky and darker unpeated malts like Criagellachie. As you explore the flavors and possibilities of Brenne's single malt whiskeys, remember to savor and appreciate the characteristics of this exceptional spirit. Experiment with different serving styles and food pairings to discover your own favorite combinations and truly enjoy the experience. Explore the Avec Grâce et Saveur of Brenne

Innovation played a vital role in French whiskey production, especially in the maturation process. Whiskeys were aged in French oak barrels previously used for wine, cognac, or other spirits, infusing diverse flavors into the final product. This approach gave French whiskey a distinctive terroir-driven character that set them apart. Within a short period, more than 50 distilleries have emerged across France, each creating its own expressions that respect local traditions while pushing the boundaries of whiskey-making. I want to continue making great French single malt whisky and bringing it to as many people as we can,” she said. “There is an incredible amount of work over many years that goes into creating just one bottle of Brenne, so when I have an opportunity to share a bottle of whisky with people, I always show up with gratitude, openness, and excitement to look each other in the eye and cheers to those special moments in life.”

And so I asked him, “If he would like to make this whisky for me and I would start this import company.” He said he instead wanted to be partners.” It was really hard to hear. And I finally pivoted, and usually at 24 years old, when I faced a no, I would tell people all the reasons why they should say yes. Tracie Franklin on the topic of women in whiskey and how the progress in this arena is still not inclusive of all women: Parc: I haven’t, only since he has asked me not to. Not by any choice of my own, but just out of sheer respect for him and his family. But originally, I wasn’t even looking to own the whiskey. I literally met with some distilleries and gave them the idea and said, “Hey, can you produce this?” AP: I think that is incredibly important, Tracie. Thank you for that . Nicola, what are you thinking about the future and progress? The quality and popularity of French whiskey have gained international recognition , with several distilleries winning awards for their craftsmanship. Despite being a newcomer in the whiskey world, France's whiskey industry is making a significant impact, promising exciting growth in the future. Brenne Founder: Alison Parc Parc: So I say, if you can imagine like an X and Y axis, right? On your X axis, it’s the flavor spectrum. So all the way over on the left is going to be your smoky, peaty, iodine, bandaid notes. And all the way over on the right on that flavor spectrum is your fruit notes, your really intense fruit notes. On the Y axis, the vertical axis, you have levels of intensity. So if you’re just focusing on whisky, if you say something like the Laphroaig or Ardbeg, you’re going to go all the way over to the left and all the way up to the top of the intensity Brenne is a French whiskey brand known for 100 percent organic single malt expressions that incorporate traditional techniques and terroir-focused production. Located in the heart of the Cognac region in France, it was established in 2012 with organic farming methods.

After retiring her pointe shoes at age 23, Allison indulged in food and drink previously restricted by her ballet lifestyle. In the years that followed, she began to build an import/export portfolio of craft spirits. Simultaneously, she set out to create a new whisky that reflected the region in which it was crafted, identifying France as the right place to build her brand.

Brenne Cuvée Spéciale (40%, OB, 2018)

Tons of vanilla, banana candy, light brown sugar, clove, and fruitcake. If you're into that sort of thing you will love it, but if you only like dry spicy spirits I have to tell you it probably isn't for you. When she retired from ballet and turned her attention to her next career, she thought of whiskey. As someone who was interested in the effect of terroir (the effect of the location on the taste of a product) on wine, she wondered if anyone was taking the same approach with whiskey. Knowing how seriously the French took their appellations and the terroir effect, she headed there to learn more. It was here where she found a cognac distiller who shared some of the same ideas she did. I didn’t want people to feel disconnected from the experience of drinking the whisky. This is not a big bold whisky that’ll put hair on your chest. I love those fatter, bigger bottles, but that’s not telling of what’s in a dram of Brenne.” After enough trial and error, this synergistic relationship and their combined efforts resulted in a unique single malt, and Patel was ready to launch Brenne.
