About this deal

Loosen the live, neutral and earth terminals and remove the electrical supply cable Step 5 – Have a Good Clean up

Our old shower is a Mira 8.78 advance ATL (I'd assume 8.78kw but the label doesn't actually say). We're looking for a new replacement electric shower and hope to replace it with a 9kw as we don't want the hassle (and extra cost) of fitting a 10mm cable. (This one we think http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/9kw-white-chrome-3298-16348.) If the fuse or MCB that’s used isn’t large enough to cope with the current drawn it will simply trip as soon as it’s used. Ultra-rapid fuses: typically used in sensitive circuitry and transistors to protect against short circuits, reacting almost instantaneously. These are also known as Very Fast Acting, Super Rapid and High-Speed fuses Once the connection terminal had been exposed, we could then go ahead and disconnect it. Using a screwdriver, we loosened the live, neutral and earth terminals and then prised the cable free of the terminal.Come on, do you realy want to be taking a shower protected by the most unreliable protective device there is? Assuming that you find one labelled shower, you should be able to get some details from it on what amperage the fuse/circuit breaker is. Normally for a shower it woul be a 40 or 45amp fuse/circuit breaker.

In real terms with domestic we have it easy, we in real terms just through together the wiring with very little design, once one gets into industrial units volt drop and diversity can’t be ignored. And if you run a supply in 4mm cable and then have to rip it out and replace because the volt drop is over spec your not flavour of the month so you have to design you simply can’t simply look as it and say that should do. Vacuum up the dust and debris and then give everything a good clean using some suitable multisurface cleaner. Firstly, they are there so that if a current is drawn that would overload the cable used it would trip, hence ensuring that the dangers of cables overheating and causing fires is limited. In this case as there was a gas hob installed above the old cooker, the gas feed pipe for the hob needed to be considered in terms of the new cooker. If however you are dealing with wires using the new wire colour scheme, they are as follows ( more information on wire colours can be found in our project here):By you own admission it's a 60A unit, leaving only 15A for the rest of the house!!!! Do you even have RCD protection on any circuits? The definition of a D-type fuse is a miniature circuit breaker that trips when the current exceeds the rated level by between ten and 20 times. Therefore, a 16 amp Type D breaker will trip if the current reaches between 160 and 320 amps. Type F Fuses With everything now out of the way it’s a great idea to have a good clean up. Things can get pretty dirty behind cookers as they are rarely moved.

Knowing the right fuse to use for our electric shower is something that most of us just overlook. Most of us only focus on choosing the right shower that fits our needs without even minding the proper fuse. Getting the wrong fuse for your electric shower could lead to major problems leaving you frustrated. Here are two tips in choosing the right fuse for your electric shower: NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Ulster Bank, which are all part of the NatWest Group, will now shut at least 172 of their bank branches in 2023 and 2024.

What Type of Circuit does an Electric Cooker use?

Similarly to the built-in cooker, the built under cooker is installed within a standard kitchen unit carcass, but instead of being fitted at eye-level, it’s installed under a kitchen worktop. Make any fine adjustments to the kitchen unit so that the new cooker fits as it should Step 7 – Connect up new Electric Cooker

If your old faithful electric cooker has finally given up the ghost and you’re looking at replacements and the cost of not only buying a new cooker but getting it installed, you may be thinking; That’s fine, I’ll just install it myself! As a short term measure you could try the plug in type replacement MCB for the old wylex unit, I think they do a 40A. Most UK plugs are fitted with a 3 amp or 13 amp fuse. 3 amp fuses are used with a range of lower power domestic goods and tools, including lamps, TVs, and drills. Meanwhile, higher power goods such as washing machines, kettles and toasters normally require a 13 amp fuse. What Happens When a Fuse Blows? As we have stated a fair few times already, but needs to be said again – before we do anything at all, turn off the power! This securing chain is a required safety device for gas freestanding cookers to prevent it from falling forwards and ripping the gas pipe off of the wall causing a gas leak, but can occasionally also be fitted to electric freestanding cookers. Built-in Electric CookersIn the case of our supply cable, it was fairly old so was still using the old style wire colours as opposed to the new. This is fine as long as it’s been tested and confirmed to still be fit for purpose. The electric cooker is pretty much the staple appliance in most kitchens and whether it’s a standard domestic cooker or something a little more industrial, if you find yourself without one, you’re absoluteley stuffed! note that some brnads don't make 45A breakers so you may need to spec your cable for being on a 50A one if 40A is insuffican't for your shower An electric cooker will need to use the correct sized electrical cable and fuse or MCB for the amount of power it will draw and this depends on its wattage.
