About this deal

As with Shark’s most recent upright cleaners, such as the NZ850UKT, the DuoClean head here has a soft roller for hard floors and a brush for carpet, with a set of LEDs that light up the path you’re cleaning. As well as an on/off button on the canister itself, the vacuum can be turned on via the touchscreen LED display on the handle. From here, you can also switch between the carpet and hard floor modes, as well as cycle through the three power levels. It’s all very straightforward in use – but, frustratingly, it doesn’t remember your last selection and always defaults to hard floor and the middle power setting.

For attachments, you get a crevice tool, a soft brush head for dusting and an upholstery brush head. I love Miele vacuum cleaners, I don’t think they get enough attention, they’re tested to the absolute highest standards to the equivalent of 10 times a week for 20 years so you know you’re getting a terrific vacuum that’s built to last. Which is more than you can say for the Shark cordless vacuum cleaners which are expected to have a much shorter shelf life. But best of all, it boasts very powerful suction. Due to its multi-cyclonic technology suction power doesn’t drop as the canister gets full. Dirt and dust are separated so the filter doesn’t get clogged. A feature that is surprising on a vacuum at its price. For detail cleaning, you pop off the floor head – using the foot-powerd eject button (again, there’s no bending down)–and use the wand and hose, or ditch the wand and go hose only. The only downside that I can see is that there are some models whose chambers are not the easiest to open and dispose of. But, the same could be said for the bagged vacuums, too. The clear canister can easily be seen when it is full and ready to be emptied. And emptying it is simplicity itself. A one-hand operation all the way through allows you to remove the dust box and empty it over the bin as it opens from the bottom. We’ve broken down what’s on offer to help you settle on the features that meet your vacuuming needs.

The PowerLifter uses a multi-cyclonic system for superior suction strength. Your carpet will benefit from a deep clean even without pet hair. It can reach even deep down debris hidden for longer than you care to admit. We have a Hetty Pet. Better than our Dyson and we have four dogs!!” (Recommended by Mumsnet user 30degreesandmeltinghere) Our verdictIn all, if you don’t have a big area to clean, or you just need a second hoover for smaller jobs, then I highly recommend the Karcher VC5 bagless. It is one of the best lightweight bagless vacuums and at a decent price. The Flexology wand is slim but sizable in length, and paired together with the full sized head, which you'll probably be using most often, it's nice and lightweight. I use it to easily get under sofas, beds, my desk and coffee table at home and you can also press a button and then bend it about halfway down to get even more reach. On the whole, I think the power levels with this vacuum are very impressive. I always feel like I've done a deep clean when I'm done with it, which is the main thing I want from my vacuum. It's quiet too, at just 78 decibels. To help, the Good Housekeeping Institute has rigorously tested models from all the major brands – Shark to Numatic to Miele – to find which cylinder vacuum cleaners are best for all needs and budgets.
