About this deal

Natalie may be a bitch but she had her reasons for doing what she did. She's trying to survive by putting her own needs above anyone else's. I will skim the end to just see what happens, but honestly I just don't care about these characters anymore. For having romance in this RH, I felt no romantic connection with Ayla with the other two guys besides Marcus, since she rarely hung out with the other two guys. I've been in a reverse harem binge lately and I can say that most of the other books I've read haven't held much substance in terms of plot, side characters and the main characters.

Ahhh! Just what I needed! It’s been awhile since I’ve had a chance to read Callie Rose and I’m glad I didn’t miss this one! A lot of the issues I had with book one were fixed up a bit in this one. The pacing is better, there's more of the plot that was promised, the sex-to-plot ratio is a lot better. There may be the same number of sex scenes in this book but I thought they were placed in the story much more naturally. Callie Rose’s novel “The Lie” is an enjoyable novel that follows on from the events of the first novel of the “Kings of Linwood Academy” series of novels.

This book was fine. Not a bad start to a series, and it kept me reading, but there were definitely some issues, and I was left wanting a bit more at the end.

Ayla is realistic compared to other mafia FMCs in the sense that once she entered this world she didn't remain completely innocent or turn into a complete badass. Don't get me wrong, she is awesome, it's just she's her own brand of awesome. She is trying to get tougher but isn't automatically amazing at shooting guns and fighting people. I skimmed further and Marcus is still alive but I can’t read anymore to find when and how this story ends. You might think, "Kaity why did you still read the book if you know you didn't like it" and to that I tell you, "I like to torture myself if it isn't obvious". Some of the problems I've had with other RH stories is the other female characters. They're either a best friend who's only interested in the FMC and her love life or a jealous bitch who hates the FMC for being with their former partner. The plot parts were much improved. I think the cliffhanger we got at the end of this book wasn't quite as effective as the last book and there were some twists that just didn't quite work for me as well but overall it was much better and I appreciated the action. One thing I didn't mention in my review of the first book is that Ayla had one of her arms amputated 2 and half years before the main plot of the book. I don't know what it's like to lose an arm but there is so little attention paid to it that it seems like a weird inclusion. Many people who have lost limbs live very regular lives but Ayla seems to have zero issues navigating this fairly recent amputation and when she loses her prosthetic, she acts like it doesn't really matter, which is not what I think would actually happen. It just felt a bit off to me and made me feel like that aspect of her character could have been handled better.

But see, the heroine's life is shit and that's what makes it so dark. It might have mafia undertones and talks about gang wars or whatever, what makes the story dark is Ayla herself. Ayla is badass. She's always looked out for herself and doesn't need a knight in shining armor. She damn well doesn't need THREE, but she gets it whether she likes it or not. to conclude, ryland. nothing to say about him. joking. he was the less developed but i can already say he will be the one i will less care. he is that rude type of reverse harem guy that clearly doesn't know how to deal with his feelings so shows hate to the main character. (i kinda hate that) The storyline wasn’t bad. The turns the plot took were creative and while a few things were predictable, I wasn’t disappointed I figured it out before the characters.I just finished reading Rejected Mates by Callie Rose. This fantastic, hot story about a female wolf shifter who is just out to have fun when she meets her mate was one of my favorites. She wakes up to discover that her partner has left her after the most amazing life of her life. Six months later, she learns that the face has not only one but three partners. However, the witch also speaks of destruction and tragedy. She leaves her group and sets out on a journey to find and kill her friends. She finds them there years later. A good read. -Ryn I kind of love the idea. Fantasizing about book stalkers is weird but fortunately, nobody judges me to my face when I read about those. But the thing that goes with my fantasy is the toxic power balance I believe there should be between the stalker and the stalkee. I could drown in this man, I think. I could fall into the depths of his soul and never resurface. Never want to.” My first read by this author and I enjoyed it. I will say that at the time of writing this review after some time has passed since I finished this book I'd actually go with a high 3 rather than 4 but that could also be because I didn't enjoy the rest of the books as much as I'd hoped. The second book does end with a cliffhanger, be warned! Hard to believe the next book will be the last. There's something rotten in Halston: there's a lot of twists and conflict going on in Sweet Retribution, and I can't wait to see if any of my predictions will come true or not. Umm, I seriously hope Marcus and Ayla aren't related. 😲 As in, hopefully Marcus doesn't turn out to be Ayla's missing brother. I mean, it seems unlikely, since Ayla's brother is supposedly younger than her, and Marcus is obviously older than her (and also the fact that Marcus's sister already died when she was just a young girl), but there's that certain passage (or two) that worries me and makes me think too much into it. LOL.
