Helping Green-Up perform is a new proprietary technology called dimension Crabgrass control. It targets crabgrass in the lawn and effectively kills the invasive weed without affecting the turfgrass or other vegetation in its vicinity. You can use this product on crabgrass already growing. Weed and feed is a combination of herbicides and fertilizer. The three phenoxy (selective) herbicides are Dicamba, 2, 4-D and/or MCPP, which are chemicals designed for broadleaf weed control of dandelions, dollarweed and much more. The feed aka fertilizer is typically a combination of phosphorous, nitrogen, and/or potassium. If you’re looking for a lawn fertiliser that also does a great job at eliminating pesky weeds and moss, go with Guard-en-Force. A kilo of this stuff will cover (and get rid of) around 500 square metres of moss.

Weed and feed can be in either liquid or granular form, but regardless of which type you choose, both kill just the weeds, and not regular, healthy grass blades, unless you apply too much.But it’s not just crabgrass and dandelions. Preen shows satisfying results eliminating more than 250 types of broadleaf weeds on the lawn. This includes white clover, a notoriously difficult weed to manage once it takes root on your lawn.

Similarly, you may consider paying slightly more for a very effective lawn feed which has long-lasting results. This might ultimately save money in the long run as you’ll have to use it less often. Just Feed, or Feed and Weed Killer? In summary, if 'Weed and Feed' worked reliably and consistently, professionals would use it and we would sell it! We all want to have a splendid lush and green lawn in front of our home. And it’s a desire of many homeowners to have a lush and beautiful lawn. However, sometimes getting to that goal can be quite complicated. Insects, weeds and so much more can wreak havoc on your green corner, and ruin all your hard work. Repeating these simple steps will keep your lawn in the kind of condition that’ll have your neighbours jealous. What are the pet friendly lawn weed and feed optionsPhosphorus (or phosphate) helps with root development, as strong roots mean less disease and fewer pests. It’s best applied in early spring or autumn. Due to its diluted nature, it may not necessarily be as strong as granulated products can be, but it’s less likely to scorch the grass and is simpler to apply. I just prefer extra value for money. There’s no other loopholes here and the same application applies. I would say one extra thing. There are other liquid products that require a more elaborate way of mixing the concentrated material with water before you can apply. We didn’t review these products since they’re a lot of hassle and can be messy to mix and apply. How many Weed and Feed applications do I need? In mid-spring (late March to April), when the soil is moist or when rain is expected, you can feed your lawn with a product that contains weed and moss control. It will kill off any moss that’s grown over winter, and help accelerate grass growth after the cold months. Once the weeds are under control, it’s fine to use a lawn feed that solely feeds the grass. MOOWY gives an all-round nutrient boost for your grass, no matter what the season. It’s a slow-release fertiliser that keeps working for 60 days, strengthening plant roots and boosting the chlorophyll in your grass thanks to its high nitrogen content. MOOWY suggests mowing your lawn no shorter than 5cm before spreading the granules evenly and then lightly watering in, regardless of the time of year you’re using it. You should see greener grass within seven days, although bear in mind that there’s no weed or moss killer in this feed. That said, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to have a supply of both. That way, you can apply lawn feed + weed killer twice a year, but keep the grass topped up with lawn feed the rest of the time. Choosing Liquid or Granular Formulas

When Not to Apply Weed and Feed? 

Wear protection clothes: You should have special clothes when applying weed and feed products. And the best way to do it is in a professional suit. However, if you don’t have it/can’t afford it, make sure to wear long sleeves and pants as well as gloves. It would also be useful if you can protect your nose and mouth with a mask. In terms of actual timing, you want to complete the cut and clear process a few days, maybe four, before you want to spread the lawn weed and feed. The best month to take this on is April or May. My pro tip is to half feed the lawn twice rather than go all in the first time. In fact, this fertiliser has been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society which goes a long way to demonstrate both its quality and reputation. Warning: Do not apply to grass less than 3 months old. The leaves are very tender. Can I do the same with Ferrous Sulphate? Nitrogen aids with leaf growth, resulting in a deep green colour when your lawn is happiest. Nitrogen-heavy lawn feeds are best applied when grass puts out new growth, so in the spring and summer.
