Seen here are the directing staff and lead voice actors. Part of the film's promotions included a life-size recreation of the rooms of the Marsh House, including Marnie's iconic blue windows. Hisako/Gillie — Plays the same role in the film for the most part in telling Anna the story behind Marnie. In the film, they do show that Hisako was a friend of Marnie's. She is also an artist in both the film and the book. Toichi/Wuntermenny — is a very quiet fisherman. Anna takes to him because of his silence. In the film, the creators originally played with Toichi having lines that showed Anna kindness, but dropped the idea as they realized Anna would most like exhibit signs of anxiety (Joseph and Otake).

karakter Anna dan Marnie di awal wkwkwk tapi kasian juga sih si Anna kan emang kesepian dan menyedihkan, mungkin karena itu sikapnya jadi begitu. Terus si Marnie entahlah kadang dia rada sok iye gituu HAHAH. Oh tapi aku cukup kaget loh sama character development-nya Anna yang tiba-tiba jadi seru gitu pas kenal sama anak2 keluarga Lindsay. When Marnie Was there uses setting as a sensual, significant character. Anna, after suffering the loss of her mother and then her grandmother before her adoption, finds the pearly water setting comforting in her loneliness. Robinson’s prose flows like undulating waves, drifting dreamily through sensory descriptions where seagulls caw overhead and lofty clouds merge into the pearl-gray sky. In Studio Ghibli fashion, When Marnie Was There (2014) also scintillates the senses with animation flowing like fluid water. Japanese clothing and storefronts touch the film with cultural significance. When Marnie Was There was released in Japan on 19 July 2014. On January 14, 2015, GKIDS announced that they would be distributing the film for a North American release. The film premièred at the New York International Children's Film Festival on 27 February 2015. The film had its UK premiere during the BFI London Film Festival on 10 October 2015 with a wider release scheduled for 10 June 2016. her deep loneliness and sense of feeling unloved are soothed by explorations of nature, by the marsh house that stands near the edge of the sea, and eventually, by marnie. After this first reading, he initially refused the project. But he still tried to draw some illustrations. “I thought it might be a good idea to bring something more. Anna draws herself. Through his drawings or his way of writing, I could perhaps also describe the feelings of the character." It also has the idea of adding scenes not present in the original text, as Anna and Marnie dancing under the moon or night scene picnic. “I drew all of this, and going through these steps, I finally said to myself: I want to continue, and maybe I can finally make this movie."

The novel When Marnie Was There was published in Japan in 1980 by Iwanami Bunko boy in two volumes. I am Anna of course, and Marnie is my mother. My mother was always un-get-atable. Without meaning to, she always let me down. I found this extremely difficult to forgive, for without realising parents are in the same boat as yourself, that they are children, too, you can't forgive them for being frail and human. But until you learn to forgive, you yourself are crippled, can't begin to grow up. Through writing Marnie I faced the truth and found understanding. It made things a lot better. Robinson, Joan G.; Ambrus, Glenys (illus.) (1977). The Summer Surprise. London: Collins. ISBN 0-00-184350-8. OCLC 59787931. Mrs. Preston/Yoriko Sasaki/Auntie- Anna had been living with Auntie for seven years, ever since her grandmother passed away. She loves Anna like a daughter and worries about her. In the film, Yoriko mentions to the doctor that Anna has an ordinary face. An ordinary face means that her face is expressionless. Anna in the book does this intentionally to ward off people.

The writing is simple. The characters are relatable. But what I think is the best thing about the book is that it is uplifting. The book tells a story about the sadness of feeling excluded as well as the joy and beauty of true friendship. Children like the main character of the book understand those things. But I have learned that it is not only children who feel excluded or long for genuine friendship. That means that this book is not just for children but for everyone.
