About this deal

the protagonist is one of those blank slate vessels for the reader to project onto. he’s super uncompelling as a character and very difficult for me to sympathize with. theres no motivations for him or a semblance of a personality outside of being a generic, non-descript high school boy. like come on, i know the author is trying to make him average, but like average people have personalities. they have wants and desires. they’re not boring grey boxes, they’re funky colorful shapes! Character relationships and actions - The main character develops an attachment almost immediately. I don't know if this is supposed to indicate some sort of connection he has but it felt forced. He also doesn't give any thought or concern to his family until late in the story. For any normal person that would be their first thought if they have a normal life (as the main character does). He immediately assimilates into his new life and gives us no reason to sympathize or even care that he has been torn away from his family. A number of times he even says the people he meets at the SCP are his family. This is good. It’s a blank slot waiting for you to fill it up with your deepest desire until your deepest desire is pushing up into your throat. You will gag on your need. And until you do, it is a resonation space, for you to build your will like organ music in a cathedral. Hear the music now. This is not a metaphor. If your will is strong enough, there will be music now. Remember now that nothing in this book is a metaphor.

In early chapters, these exercises are focused on two things: the exact goals that the reader has in mind, and the concentration on certain stars in the sky. This activity is connected to the titular “star signals”: SCP-1425 claims that the light emitted by stars carries a “phenomenological frequency”, which is unique to each star and which is connected to the “phenomenological frequency” of each human’s mind. Each of the book’s ten chapters ends with a “Star Focus” ritual: this is a meditation performed each night, with the central focus being a celestial body. The celestial body used is determined by a calendar given in the prologue; this ensures that all readers at any given time are focusing on the same place, no matter which section of the book they are reading. The tenth chapter is an exception. See Document 1425-A. Peppy: Really? Sorry, I got distracted, I guess. Kids, pay close attention. I’ll teach you how to make candles out of whoever you find lying around!

Okay, let me preface this takedown with a reminder that I am in no way an authority on SCP lore. Therefore, I cannot attest to the amount of liberties taken with any SCP objects present in the narrative. The following events occurred between the publication date of SCP-1425 (April 22nd, 2005), and the official end date of Event 1425 (May 11th, 2005). I leave you with a warning: Command’s stance on the topic is that the sleepers have been eradicated, but it is my belief that the operation was not local. If, at any point, you detect a whiff of bullshit (or smoke, for that matter), tell your Director. Hell, tell me. And if you’re a Fifthist yourself, and you’re reading this, I can only congratulate you on your success. But I should ask: does the phrase “A * A *” mean anything to you? It does to me. Make sure to ask your deacon. Four: it wasn’t enough. Protocol Ophiuchus—spookiest of all spookshows—was a massive expenditure of resources which did a lot of good, but it wasn’t a complete success. Our expert procedures for voiding Star Signals in the public consciousness, primary among them being the expectation that the cover story would be swallowed and society’s attention would move on, left certain gaps behind, to say the least. Another point in the Protocol was a certain SCP object which was to be used only if absolutely necessary, and we used it. We’re still dealing with the consequences of activating Project LETHE, but I do not regret the decision. Sometimes you have to cut deeper into a wound to clean the infection.

The good thing with this novel is that it made SCPs more known since I got this in my local comic shop in the mall and the art illustrated in this novel was beautiful I loved Iris and Dr. Bright shown in this anime art style! I hope if a new volume is to ever be published that they fix the problem with the characters and write stories on more fun SCPs rather than just all SAFE classes.

This book never fully went in depth with Iris’s character even though the book is named after her and we never got the explanation for the bloody photo in her room, besides the fact that the person in that photo meant a lot to her. I would also like to know if Iris had something against Dr. Bright because she seems to hate him with a passion. I know he bothers her a lot but I want to know if he had anything to do with her capture or placement in the foundation. In time, their numbers dwindled and ours rose. The world began to make more sense when there were fewer things to fear, yet the unexplained can never truly go away, as if the universe demands the absurd and impossible. The poor main character has both his name (literally) and his personality (figuratively) redacted- he takes tabula rasa to the extreme. Broadcast intercepted by Protocol Ophiuchus: ███ 24-hour news network, an interview between pundit ████████ ██████ and Parliament member [REDACTED] began to cover events which have never actually occurred. The MP, for example, considers the consequences of a revolution in India in 1921, which he describes as “shorter than the Boston Massacre and ten times as bloody”. A transcript of the end of the interview is provided here. Next, we move on to characters. Sadly, the characters here are fairly bland cardboard cutouts. Our protagonist is another nondescript, unassuming Japanese high school boy. His kind are legion. He has budding emotions for Iris, which of course aren't developed upon. Iris is a fun, flirty gaijin girl; and of course it is impossible to get a bead on her romantic interest. Dr. Bright is the epitome of the obnoxious comedy relief. There aren't many other cast members. Dr. Selkie and Dr. Goldman appear briefly to redefine cringe. The dramatis personae of SCP objects present get treatment akin to lip

Star Focus: Find your night spot and begin to focus on your star. [ Prologue, Section 3: “Star Focus Calendar”: “April ██: Epsilon Sagittarii. If you can’t find it in your star chart, it’s the base of the hunter’s bow and the brightest star in the constellation.”] As you stare up into it, use your mind-clearing word. Your meditation is: “████, ████. Now is our time. Here is our space. We take your star. We hold your bonds. Repay your debt. ████, ████, ████.” Don’t worry about memorization; any time you use your mind-clearing word, you’ll remember them, even if you only read them once. If you do it right, your star will disappear. You’ll feel it resonating with the others in your void. Seacrest: Now let’s get down to business. You probably remember our first singer from last week, when he made his version of—Paula [referring to judge Paula Abdul], are you crying?I bought this book because I loved the stories of SCPs and what their existence could do to impact humanity. But this novel or book was pretty terrible. For one I did not like how they portrayed the characters (especially Iris/ SCP-105) they in a way kinda sexualized her or made her very naive or just made the character stupid. And the SCPs that were chosen to be written for this novel were boring, except one. The story also makes no sense. The story was confusing. For one, in the beginning of The Carnival Of Horrors (SCP-823) chapter we meet these three soldiers and when the main character mentions the name Dr Bright they start to treat the main character with kindness or sympathy. Because he was tangled up in Bright’s mess. Later on the female soldier in the group reveals that she has a family and a younger brother. Which was revealed later on by Bright that he was her brother. Which makes no sense! Either Bright was joking or something but that made no sense! If they were siblings and the soldier knew the name of Bright before this she wouldn’t be fighting there to begin with because her brother would be a researcher and scientist! (She only worked there to give her family a better life) But Bright would be a lot younger and the soldier said that he was probably around the same age as the main character! And Bright is like a lot older than that when he was working in the foundation, yet they still recognized the name Bright even though Dr Bright as a young teenager, wouldn’t be working at the foundation in that time! This girl who plagues him in his world is the instigator of his incarceration. They form a bond that is a big motivation in the story. I really liked her and found their differences intriguing. If you feel yourself developing a soul, go outside immediately and follow the direction of the smoke until you meet them.

This novel is told in the first person perspective of the nameless (actually, name redacted) protagonist (designation SCP-105-C), who, as the summary tells us, is pulled through a photo into an SCP Foundation location. Prior to this, he'd seen an identical picture in every book he opened: that of a beautiful young blonde girl cradling a vintage Polaroid camera. This turns out to be Iris Thompson (SCP-105) and her camera (SCP-105-B). The boy has no idea what his connection to this mysterious girl is; and his life is turned upside-down as he attempts to unravel this mystery; all while contending with running across other SCP objects at the facility, and being subjected to 'research' conducted on him by the enigmatic Dr. Bright (don't know what the existing lore on him/her/they was, but I wonder if it involved him being a hard-core otaku with a fidget spinner). Day 13 (Saturday, 5/4): Foundation agents investigate the case of the Boyars and determine a possible link between their outburst and the book titled Star Signals. The Boyars’ copy is confiscated for examination, as well as a new copy from a local bookstore.

When a subject reads the full text of SCP-1425, the book exerts a mild reality-warping effect, influenced by the subject's desires (which in turn are influenced by SCP-1425; see below). When a sufficiently large number of subjects are exposed to this effect, further complications arise in terms of mental health and the integrity of spacetime. See Event Log SCP-1425-05. Seacrest: Ladies and gentlemen, Paula’s had a long week. [Audience laughs.] You think it might be happening?
