About this deal

Richard Osman's Blank of Blanks ( first played on Series 7, Episode 20): Each player of one pair blanks out a word in a question for the other pair. An incorrect answer unblanks the question for a steal opportunity. You Complete Me (Team Game)– Pretty entertaining, basically, you and your teammate need to guess the full word to win points, however, you can’t confer with your partner on the words. Highbrow Lowbrow ( first played on Series 2, Episode 2): The players are given two questions with the same answer; however, one of them is highbrow (a more academic question) and the other is lowbrow (a more pop culture question). If they get the question right after the highbrow clue, they get two points; however, they only receive one point if they get the question correct after the lowbrow clue. If they fail to answer the lowbrow question correctly, other players may buzz in with the answer for one point.

Plenty have come close and then fallen at the final post, but comedian Angela Barnes completed her streak by coming first in every game of her first House of Games appearance. She very nearly managed it again when she returned for the Champions special alongside Ade Edmondson, his daughter Beattie, and Kemah Bob, but wobbled on Wednesday of that week, when Beattie Edmondson took the win in a pretty exciting tie-break with her dad. Ivo Graham and Scarlett Moffatt Have Done the Triple The (Not Quite So) Nice Round ( only played on Series 3, Episode 44): Same as The Nice Round except that each player, rather than nominating another player for giving a good clue, nominates a player to have a point deducted for a bad clue. Mime Time ( first played on Series 6, Episode 25): Each player is given a question, and they have to mime the answer to their partner. Bits of Hits ( first played on Series 7, Episode 17): The players will hear one, then two and finally three second snippets of a famous song. If they recognise the song, they must write the title down on their tablet. The player who correct identifies the song after the earliest snippet will receive a point.Rhyme Time ( first played on Series 1, Episode 1): The players are shown two statements whose answers rhyme. They then buzz in with the correct answers. On some questions, one of the statements is replaced with either a picture or a song (in which the title of the song is the rhyming answer they require). This is usually the first round of the week to ease the contestants into the format. You Complete Me: One player in the team must give the first half of the answer and the other player must give the second. Series 2, Group 2: Steph McGovern, Ben Miller, Janette Manrara and Ed Balls (tie between McGovern and Balls) I Complete You ( first played on Series 3, Episode 45 & last played on Series 3, Episode 97): The pairs are given a question which has a two word answer. In a reverse to You Complete Me, one of the players in a pair buzzes in with the second word of the answer, and then the other player in the pair has to give the first word for them both to get a point. Vowel Movement ( first played on Series 4, Episode 9): The players are given a list of up to four items, one at a time, however all of the vowels have been changed in a substitution cipher, which may vary from clue to clue. They must buzz in with the category that links the correctly spelled items for a point.

Comedian-writer-actor Jennifer Saunders appeared on the House of Games Night evening edition in November 2020, while her comedian-writer-actor husband Ade Edmondson and their daughter, actor Beattie Edmondson, appeared on the regular version in series two, three, and again in a Champions special week. (TV presenter Matt Edmondson has also appeared on the show, but is no relation.) But Richard Osman’s Famous Older Brother Hasn’t (Yet) Been On Richard Osman’s House of Games’ is fun enough but my biggest concern is the repeat play value, which I think is quite low. There aren’t that many different cards for the various rounds so once you play the game a few times, you’ll know all the answers. Now I know you’re probably thinking, nonsense that’s not the case for ‘Trivial Pursuit’ etc but the different here is the rounds are so specific that they are much more memorable than standard general knowledge.

Toys

Is It Me? ( first played on Series 1, Episode 1 & last played on Series 2, Episode 8): Each team member is given a card with something specific on it. Osman asks questions and each player must raise their card up if they think that the answer on the card is a correct answer to the question, and lower their card if they do not think it relates to it. There are four rounds of game categories to play, and the fifth and final game is the Answer Smash. For this, none of the players takes on the role of host. After three Answer Smash cards have been played, the game is over. The most points scored wins the game. If you have not watched ROHoG, this is the simple premise: celebrities pair up/go against each other to answer or solve word-based tasks for points over the course of a week – whoever has the most points at the end of the week wins… usually some kind of themed-yet-disappointing prize. The boxed version follows the same premise, only you won’t play it over a number of days and the themed prize… well, that’s entirely up to you. a b "Richard Osman's House of Games - Series 4, Episode 100".
