Klymit's Static V insulated sleeping mat is mid weight rather then ultralight, but for the extra weight you get a mat with a robust face fabric, a really decent R-Value and quite a comfortable nights sleep. At 6cm deep it offers a good level of comfort, especially compared to self inflating models. You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.

I touched on the Static V2’s comfort in the “design” section, but I will cover comfort and stability in more detail here. While there are other pads on the market that use thinner materials and weigh less, these pads tend to be more prone to punctures, rips, and tears along the seams. Their fabric also tends to be noisier. You’ll need to decide for yourself if durability or weight is your top priority. Best Applications, Limitations & Value

The size or dimensions of the Klymit Static V and Klymit Static V2 Sleeping Pads are identical. This is true both when they are inflated and fully deflated. On top of the different fabrics, the Static V2 improved the inflation valve to avoid leaks and increase its durability. Both of these improvements were necessary and we’re stoked to see that Klymit has implemented them.These air mattresses are almost identical in every way. The main difference is that the Klymit Static V2 is actually lighter than the regular Static V. While the Static V weighs 18.1 ounces, the Static V2 only weighs 16.33 ounces. The reason why this was made possible is the fact that the V2 has a lighter fabric on the top than the Static V. Nevertheless, the Static V2 is still ultra-durable. The second purpose of the sleeping pad is to provide a measure of insulation as you sleep, keeping you warm and comfortable on those very cold nights.

One of the decisions outdoor enthusiasts have to face when choosing a sleeping pad is how much weight they are willing to carry. The lighter your gear, the easier it is to freely hike and explore. However, that can mean tossing out a comfortable, yet bulky sleeping pad for something that will be lighter, yet will be thinner and less cushioned. Not so with the Static v2. Important Note:To avoid popping or deflating your pad, it’s important to adjust the air volume depending on the outside temps. If it’s cold, the air in your mattress will compress, and when it’s warm, it’ll inflate. Don’t blow it up all the way if it’s warm out or it will pop! I sleep on my side and often find that I wake up with sore shoulders when camping out, the Static V2 is a perfect sleeping pad for side sleepers and I found it very comfortable to sleep on, unlike the X Frame.
