About this deal

The US-42B has three sound pads that can produce pre-recorded sound effects like clapping, cheering, or whatever you want. This will switch between mic gain, headphone volume, and the monitoring mix. This lets you decide on the balance between how much of the mic you can hear. And, that also goes for how much you hear every other sound that’s sent to the headphones. The Mini can’t customize your reverb, samples, and other effects like the Pro, but it can apply a noise gate, compressor, and equalizer. The product has an equivalent input noise of -130dBV @ 60dB gain. Speaking of its gain, it ranges from 0 to 75dB while phantom power is at 48 VDC 7mA.

The Wave XLR has a maximum input and output level of 10V @ 0dB gain and 77 mW respectively. Resolution is 24-bit then its sample rate is 48 / 96kHz. Even though it has the unmistakable character and enhanced bass of a dynamic broadcast microphone, Elgato has tuned it to bring out a bit more treble detail. This lends a bit more airiness and natural timbre to the sound. Its tuning allows it to be a more versatile recording tool and better for recording instruments on music streams. The console also features a 16-bit DSP for special effects and a USB slot for connecting flash drives, laptops, PCs, or phones. In addition to the XLR input and USB-C connection, the rear also features a 3.5mm headphone connection, allowing you to plug directly into the Wave XLR and monitor your audio output with zero-latency. The USB connection will also route your computer audio through the Wave XLR, allowing you to monitor your entire mix, which you can easily balance using the large knob on the front of the device. The knob turns infinitely, using the surrounding LEDs to communicate the levels of each of the three main settings it controls: mic input gain, output volume to the headphones, and to dial in the crossfade mix between your mic and your PC audio. The knob simply pushes in to switch between the settings. You can also toggle the 48V phantom power on and off depending on if your particular XLR mic needs it or not. While the mic we used was a condenser mic, Elgato also says that Wave XLR can breathe life into dynamic microphones via “75 dB of ultra low-noise gain.” The multifunctional control dial of the Wave XLR allows you to adjust output volume and set input gain. Also, it lets you toggle phantom power and crossfade between mic & PC mix. Clipguard TechnologyWhile many mixers require a cloud lifter to boost the signal of select popular microphones. For example, the Shure SM7B, the Wave XLR has a 0-75dB gain range, so you don’t need to add extra devices between your mic and Wave. This further helps clear the clutter on your desk for a simpler stream setup. “The device’s most important feature, however, is its compatibility with the Wave Link Software.” With the Wave XLR, you won’t have to watch levels while you’re live, nor salvage distorted audio in post-production. The Clipguard technology reroutes audio via a second signal path that runs at a lower volume when input levels increase. As a result, it produces clean audio output and it doesn’t matter how loud you scream. Choose Your Style Like most of Elgato’s products, the Wave XLR is a sleek little device that doesn’t take up a whole lot of space.

It doesn’t have a complicated interface with multiple dials and faders; it instead has one dial and some buttons for controlling audio volume, mic volume, and crossfade between the two. It has a learning curve, however, once you figure out how it works, it’s pretty easy to use and integrate into OBS, XSplit, and other streaming software. Our Voicemeeter setup guide for splitting audio in OBS can help you out! The Bottom Line It is compatible with smartphones, tablets, Macs, and PCs—no special driver installation necessary. The XLR input supports USB, condenser, and dynamic mics. It also includes a noise gate and compressor for better control of environmental sounds. The Elgato Wave XLR is an affordable high-end solution for your streams and podcasts. Its simple design, user-friendly software, and excellent performance make this product a must-have for content creators. It offers you the freedom to utilise any XLR microphone with your computer.Having a dedicated audio interface for streaming games on YouTube, Twitch or any other online platform can significantly enhance the quality of your audio. With improved sound quality, increased volume control, reduced latency and more connectivity, a USB audio interface is a sound investment for any streamer looking to take their audio to the next level.

It provides a lot of functionality to easily control your audio setup and reduces all audio processing to a minimum while making your voice sound crisp and clear. Above the image, you’ll find Wave XLR and Elgato’s logo set in place. Then below the product’s image, there’s a brief description of what the item is all about.

Elgato Wave XLR Review – Beyond the Hardware

When we were inspecting the product for our Elgato Wave XLR review, we could dismiss it as a bit basic. This was the first time we saw it, and also when we compared it to other smaller XLR interfaces around. This was with around 40% gain from the preamp. And also, we noticed that it didn’t have any issues powering the microphones we’ve tried with it. Elgato Wave XLR Review Summary With the Wave Link software, the Wave XLR has so much more to offer to enhance your stream. This XLR microphone interface can only get better as Elgato improves the software in the future. Phantom power provides enough juice to drive condenser mics and produce crystal-clear recordings. The K3+ has nine dials for adjusting reverb effects and six preset sound effects.

To be clear, I am very familiar with audio interfaces, having worked at a popular music gear retailer for over a decade and having my own vocal booth setup in my office that runs a high-quality condenser microphone through a nice Focusrite interface. I wanted similar good-sounding XLR mic quality at my desk as well, but didn’t want to have to have a whole second complex audio setup to use my second XLR mic at my desk. The Wave XLR met those needs, and effectively turned my Movo VSM-7 XLR mic into a USB mic. The device comes with software that can be used to assign audio files to the sound pads. It is compatible with both headset mics and 4-pole earphones with mics designed for smartphones. The original GoXLR is without a doubt a favorite among streamers, content creators, and podcasters. The good news is that the market for audio mixers has grown tremendously in recent years, and streamers are spoiled for choice.

Considering it’s affordable price, this board is quite sturdy with clearly labeled buttons, knobs, and inputs. You’ll also find four across the bottom area which are present to indicate which controls are selected. Plus, it will allow you to see the 48V phantom power if it’s active or not. This works to power the condenser microphones. You have the freedom to choose from a wide range alternatives to the GoXLR mixer that offer different features at varying price points.
