Psychologically minded and sinister in tone, the narrative digs into what drives someone to commit murder, beyond colourful motives and convenient conclusions. That's not to say there are any concrete answers. Much of the murderer's history is still shrouded in mystery by the time the book ends with only hints as to what drove him first to kill.I read "Hide My Eyes" on a rainy Sunday afternoon/early evening. When I finished the book, my thoughts immediately were simply, "wow". In: 7th European conference on space debris, ESA/ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany, 18–21 April 2017, pp 1–11 Hide my Eyes," features a murderer. Jeremy Hawker is a con man, a thief and a killer. Much of this novel takes place over a single day, when the elderly widow, Polly Tassie, who treats the murderer like a son, has a visitor. A young niece of her husband's, who she invites to stay. What follows is a fascinating account of a day, when the young girl is dropped off by Richard Waterford, who is in love with her. Richard sees the killer, Jerry Hawker, leave the house and then runs into him again and ends up on a bar crawl which is meant to give Hawker an alibi. From HM Land Registry price paid data we exclude category B type transactions as well as transactions where an error may have occurred (at our discretion) or where we believe that the transaction may not be related to a property. This may impact property price estimates as well as other data / information shown. The characters in this novel are engaging and so well done! The young vulnerable girl just up from the country and needing a protector on her first real visit to London, the perpetrator of the crimes himself, hiding his cycnicsm and creativity with cover-ups beneath a respectable exterior, the nosy neighbor who is so helpful to police investigation, the good friend who makes promises (against her better judgment), and then calls the police anyway, the naive elderly lady who can't stop believing in the ultimate goodness of mankind. Sarego G, Olivieri L, Valmorbida A, Brunello A, Lorenzini EC et al. Deployment requirements for deorbiting electrodynamic tether technology. In: Proceedings of the aerospace Europe conference 2020, Bordeaux, France, 25–28 Feb 2020 Due to the high stiffness of the employed aluminium tape (about 30 kN/m for a sample 1.5 m long), the verification is performed in two steps. First, the setup employed for thrusters authority verification is used to test the proposed method with a 1.5 m long polyamide line with a diameter of 0.3 mm (theoretical stiffness of 129 N/m); the S-DM motion detected with the MC system is reconstructed and compared to simulations, as well as loads measured with the load cell mounted on the constrained end. In a second phase, the line is substituted with the aluminium tape and the test is repeated with the same parameters but without the load cell, whose stiffness is comparable to that of the tape and might therefore invalidate the experiment. This approach allows a first validation of the proposed method with the elastic polyamide line and then the verification of the tape characteristics. To date, many investigations of space tethers are for applications in debris removal. The growing problem of space debris and their influence on the access to orbit became commonly recognized by the scientific community after the definition of the so-called “Kessler Syndrome” [ 13], introducing the risk of losing access to Earth orbit regions due to the constant growth of debris and the consequent catastrophic impacts cascade effect. Despite efforts to reduce new spacecraft influence on the debris environment (e.g., [ 14, 15]), the recent plans for large constellations [ 16, 17] are constantly scrutinized and their short and long term influence on the space debris environment stability is under evaluation [ 18, 19, 20]. In this context the scientific community is evaluating further mitigation strategies, considering both the utilization of enhanced protections [ 21] and the implementation of post mission disposal (PMD) [ 22] and active debris removal (ADR) [ 23] operations. Among the different strategies for PMD and ADR [ 24], Electrodynamic Tethers (EDTs) have been investigated as a reliable and convenient solution in low-Earth orbit (LEO) [ 25, 26]. For further information on EDTs and the most recent evolution, the low-working-function tethers (LWTs), see [ 27, 28, 29, 30]. The reader already knows what's happened, whodunit, and is privy to witnessing the perpetrator at work during the course of a day. The suspense comes in trying to understand the mind of this criminal and in watching how events play out so that Scotland Yard can not only figure things out, but capture this guy as well. So early on we are introduced to the criminal and the detectives and the questions are how or if the two will meet. Therein lies the suspense of this book. The final chapter set in a Museum of Oddities is as thrilling as the first. At the end, we do not know all; as the final sentence states: “There was great deal of work to be done”. Dobrowolny M, Stone NH (1994) A technical overview of TSS-1: the first tethered-satellite system mission. Il Nuovo Cimento C 17(1):1–12 I took Hide My Eyes on a three-day vacation with me, never having read anything by Allingham before. I knew that this wasn't a whodunnit (my favorite in the mystery genre) and I wasn't sure what to expect. I appreciate the many clever ways golden-age mystery writers find to tell their whodunits outside of the traditonal, but this book - which has a THRILLING run up to the conclusion - is ultimately disappointing.

Margery Allingham had an enduring fascination with an odd couple of human phenomena—sociopathy and what Christians call Grace—and in her later books, the two come together in interesting ways. Tether’s End (known in Britain as Hide My Eyes and sometimes in the USA as Ten Were Missing) is one of those books, as is the more elaborate Tiger in the Smoke. For me, Tiger is the better of the two, but Tether’s End is certainly a competent and compact little thriller. Infact the story unfolds from the point of view of innocent normal people who gets to know Gerry Hawker in the course of a day unware of what he is. None of them can see all the clues to his mystery as the reader does and this makes the book very suspenseful. LPICo 2109:6037We meet Polly Tassie, one of Allingham’s marvellous elderly ladies. It is she who hides her eyes to Gerry’s evil nature and the awful truth about him…..until the end when Gerry tells her: This took me by surprise in different ways than a mystery story typically might.
