About this deal

Versatility – new tools are being released all the time for the Cameo 4 that increases its versatility The Silhouette Portrait 3 offers a whole host of incredible features that will transform your DIY and craft projects! The compact cutting machine comes with cutting-edge updates, offering both automatic tool detection and matless cutting capabilities.

Silhouette Cameo 4— The flagship Silhouette craft cutter, and the most technologically advanced in the Cameo series to date. It has two additional larger models: the Cameo 4 Plus and Cameo 4 Pro.

Multibuys

The Silhouette Cameo 4 Pro also allows the user to die-cut through materials without the need for a mat. The tool head is offset and that matched with the grooved cutting strip allows the machine to cut through materials without the need to apply the media to a carrier sheet first. Of course, with a low price and small size comes some compromise. Here are the issues you should know about: My initial tutorials (from a list by MikeOxon later in this thread). Note that some of this information will have been updated later in the thread or in other tutorial threads. This can come down to preferences, budget and how you're using your cutting machine. The Silhouette Cameo 4 has a greater cutting power than the Cricut Maker 3, for example, but the Cricut Maker overcomes this with faster cutting and can offer a cleaner edge. The Silhouette Cameo 4 is better for fabric cutters, as its larger size is useful.

One element that gets virtually no mention with cutting machines is stencils. Whereas a mask is intended to cover the area to be protected, such as glazings etc., i.e. to paint or spray around the mask, a stencil is designed to paint or spray inside the area being covered. I have used the cutter for making stencils which provide perfect circles, such has helo spots and numbers on ship models plus white line demarcations and so forth. Silhouette is angular, aggressive and sharp. The rear-mounted touch-screen on the cameo 4 is a nice touch, but Cricut's close app-integration ensures such a thing is not needed. When the machine is not being used there is a slide out lid to keep the internals clean and protected. Before the launch of the Cricut Maker 3, the Silhouette Cameo 4 had more of an edge in the Cricut vs Silhouette battle. It still has the edge on cutting strength, and while it's the more powerful machine, it's also cheaper. But there's questions over whether raw power is needed in craft cutting. Also an Inkscape extension is available at https://github.com/fablabnbg/inkscape-silhouette that enables masks to be directly sent from Inkscape to a Silhouette Portrait. Instructions for installing the extension on Linux, MacOS, and Windows are provided.

Creative Play

Cricut uses a rotary blade, a scoring wheel, a knife blade, a basic perforation blade, a wavy blade, a fine debossing tip, and an engraving tip. However, Silhouette is quite compact. It uses a rotary blade, a punch blade, a deep cut blade, and a knife blade. The Silhouette Cameo 4 is the mightiest of Silhouette's cutting machines. It's got a classic 12-inch cutting width and 3mm clearance. As standard the Cameo 4 can cut to 10ft without using a guide mat, with the roll-feeder attached this can go up to 140ft. As with Maker 3 these lengths are only for vinyl cutting. Unlike some of the more established and best 3D printers the Silhouette Alta comes ready to use out of the box; there's no fiddling with settings or piecing together the device. This machine comes preassembled, pre-calibrated, and is ready to plug use out of the box. It's a refreshing way to get started in 3D printing. If you’re new to Silhouette and need help with installing the design software, this is the post for you! It’s important to install Silhouette Studio® or Mint Studio™ on your computer before you connect your Silhouette, as it makes the setup process easier. What Is Silhouette Studio® And Mint Studio™?

More power doesn't always mean better results. When cutting craft materials such as balsa wood, for example, you get a cleaner cut from several passes at varying pressures rather than one punch, which is Cricut's approach with Maker 3. The best thing about the Curio is undoubtedly the number of new features it has that no other Silhouette die cutter can do. OK, now you’ve decided whether you want a Curio or Cameo (or both!), you might want to think about whether the Cameo or Portrait is the right Silhouette die cutter for you. Blogs, although they are craft blogs, they are essentially doing the same machine, and any frustrations or whoops of joy are just as validSilhouette Studio is good enough to do the job, albeit with a few niggles, but the closed output format means that it isn't as flexible as other options such as Inkscape or Corel Draw. I'm going to be moving onto Inkscape myself so that I can exchange my files with other people, and if I get a different cutter one day, I'll know I'll be able to reuse the plans I've drawn on that. If you already are using Corel Draw or some other application, then you can continue to use them and this should be a breeze!
