About this deal

Although, if you have the NTG5.1 unit, not really worth it. Option 6, I want to do the firmware / software updates myself, then get the a activator. There are less expensive microphones out there, but I’ve not heard one that sounds as good as the NTG5. There are better microphones out there, too, but I’ve not seen one that’s as inexpensive as the NTG5. This may very well be the best balance of price vs performance on the shotgun microphone market right now, and it easily stands up to many of the higher-priced short shotgun microphones on the market. I used the microphone as my main shotgun microphone for some documentary shootings. With situations like rainy weather and dust, just as expected, the NTG5 worked perfectly in a rainy, humid, and dusty environment.

The frequency response curves look heavily smoothed too but suggest the NTG3 has a little more bass and a little less air. Is that about right? The company say that the arrays of round ports are of a "revolutionary design" which "improves the acoustic transparency and results in a more natural uncoloured sound". It's a bold claim to which I'll return later, but there is a distinct similarity between the round ports used here, and those employed in Rode's excellent high-end TF5 small-diaphragm capacitor mics. I'd be very happy to use the NTG5. It really is an extremely good-sounding, highly effective, reliable and cost-effective location recording mic... The NTG5 comes in a complete location recording kit, featuring the new WS10 windshield, redesigned pistol grip and other accessories- it’s ready to be taken into the field right out of the box. As COMAND NTG5.5 has no DVD slot, it is only a single height unit, and all you can see is the Hard Disk carrier. If you’ve been thinking about getting the NTG3, but it was always just a little out of budget, and you’re wondering if you should get the NTG5 instead, then just get the NTG5. You won’t be disappointed. Unless you know you have a certain need for a specific microphone, perhaps the longer throw of the NTG8, for example, I don’t think you can go wrong with this one.Mercedes introduced COMAND NTG5 in the W222 S-Class at launch in 2013. This systems was strangely known as NTG5*2 internally. It was then installed in the W205 C-Class at launch and used on the GLC, AMG-GTS and the W447 Vito. The "non navigation" Audio-20, and the Garmin SD card "Audio-20 with Navigation" systems were also launched with the W205-C class. A version of the Audio-20 without a CD player was installed in earler W213/W238/W257 E and CLS vehicles.

The super-powerful NTG5shotgun microphone – perfect for filmmaking, but also great for certainpodcastingand streaming applications Benefits of Using a Shotgun Microphone for Podcasting or Streaming In terms of the mic's tonality, the NTG5 sounds very clean and crisp, with excellent dialogue intelligibility when pointed accurately on-axis to a speaker. However, while I completely understand the decision to roll off the low end — something which definitely enhances usability in the field — I'd have preferred that to be controlled by a switchable filter so that a fuller, deeper tonality could be captured when desired in the appropriate circumstances, such as indoors and when recording studio voiceovers. The annular line tube technology intrinsic to the NTG5’s design sets it apart from all other microphones in its category, and will see this microphone take its place as a future industry standard.

Taking it outside

During the firmware / software update, the instructions refer to a green cable, this is a ethernet cable that goes from the VCI to a network port the Xentry machine is connected too. (Note – we have a Kit3 type of Xentry system, if you have kit 1 or 2, then it might not say about this or maybe different) NTG5.5 was then introduced for the W213/W238 E Class and the CLS adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Support. At launch only COMAND was NTG5.5 and Audio-20 was NTG5*2, Audio-20 was updated to NTG5.5 around the Model Year 2018 release - The NTG5.5 Audio-20 supports both the standard Audio-20 LCD and the larger LCD previously used for COMAND, and of course Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Note that NTG5.5 does not have an inbuilt CD/DVD player but there is an optional external CD/DVD that is in the main glovebox and can be retrofitted. NTG5.5 seems to be made only by Mitsubishi Electric(Melco). NTG5.5 systems have the DAB tuner built in and use the FM/AM antenna connection for DAB aswell. RF-bias technology and conformal coating ensure the NTG5 is reliable in adverse environments. It is designed to be taken everywhere, with excellent resistance to wet conditions, high humidity, severe cold and dust. All Accessories Included
