About this deal

If you have been consuming this medicine for more than three days and it shows some adverse symptoms, you must consult a doctor. It is advised not to consume this medicine for a stretch of 10 or more days as it is not suitable for your health. Place meltlet on the tongue, allow it to dissolve in the mouth before swallowing it. No water is required. Do not chew. Adults and children from 12 years: Take 1 to 2 meltlets initially, then 1 to 2 meltlets every 4 to 6 hours as necessary (maximum 6 meltlets in 24 hours). Do not use in children under 12 years old except on doctor's advice.

You must avoid taking this medicine if you have stomach ulcers or internal bleeding problems. Also, ensure you are not allergic to Ibuprofen or other painkillers. If you are allergic to Ibuprofen, then you cannot take Nurofen as Ibuprofen is actively present.Anti-platelet agents and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs): increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding (see section 4.4). Following therapeutic doses 90-100% of the drug is recovered in the urine within 24 hours almost entirely following hepatic conjugation with glucuronic acid (about 60%), sulphuric acid (about 35%) or cysteine (about 3%). Small amounts of hydroxylated and deacetylated metabolites have also been detected. Children have less capacity for glucuronidation of the drug than do adults. In overdose there is increased N-hydroxylation followed by glutathione conjugation. When the latter is exhausted reaction with hepatic proteins is increased leading to necrosis. The adverse events observed most often are gastrointestinal in nature. Adverse events are mostly dose-dependent, in particular the risk of occurrence of gastrointestinal bleeding is dependent on the dosage range and duration of treatment.

Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic acid): Concomitant administration of ibuprofen and acetylsalicylic acid is not generally recommended because of the potential of increased adverse effects, unless low-dose aspirin (not above 75 mg daily) has been advised by a doctor (see Section 4.4).

For the treatment of sign and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis and other non-rheumatoid arthropathies, Anticoagulants: NSAIDs may enhance the effects of anti-coagulants, such as warfarin (See section 4.4). Nurofen Meltlets is a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme invovled in prostaglandin synthesis via the arachidonic acid pathway. Its pharmacological effects are believed to be due to inhibition cylooxygenase-2 (COX-2) which decreases the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in mediating inflammation, pain, fever and swelling. Antipyretic effects may be due to action on the hypothalamus, resulting in an increased peripheral blood flow, vasodilation, and subsequent heat dissipation. Inhibition of COX-1 is thought to cause some of the side effects of ibuprofen including GI ulceration. Nurofen Meltlets is administered as a racemic mixture. The R-enantiomer undergoes extensive interconversion to the S-enantiomerin vivo. The S-enantiomer is believed to be the more pharmacologically active enantiomer. If you are taking other medicines containing ibuprofen, aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medicines

The concurrent use of aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and ethanol may lead to gastrointestinal (GI) blood loss. There is limited evidence that drugs which inhibit cyclooxygenase/prostaglandin synthesis may cause impairment of female fertility by an effect on ovulation. This is reversible upon withdrawal of treatment. You should start to notice the pain relieving effects of Nurofen Meltlets within 30 to 60 minutes of taking the tablets.

Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication. Therapy with NSAIDs should be administered cautiously in patients with preexisting fluid retention, hypertension, or a history of heart failure. Side effects may be minimised by taking the lowest dose for the shortest time necessary to relieve the symptoms. You may suffer one of the known side effects of NSAIDs (see below). If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
