Conn, David (12 September 2007). "How Dein's 'dead money' helped kill off a football ideal". The Guardian. Archived from the original on 21 September 2016 . Retrieved 31 July 2016.

You know when you see a proper car-crash interview on TV but can’t look away? That, but for your ears. The expansion of the FA Cup, from 15 clubs in its inaugural season to currently more than 700 has meant successive changes in the competition's structure. Teams in the top two divisions were made exempt from the qualifying stages and the first two rounds of the Cup in 1925–26. Because of this rounds were renamed; the fifth and sixth qualifying rounds became first and second round proper. Since 1914–15 there have been a total of 14 rounds, in comparison to five in 1871–72. Dance-pop and Manchester United: both massive and unavoidable in the mid-90s, both on our “what was everyone thinking” list now.Whisper it, but this is one of the better footbalisations of a popular song. Good? No, I wouldn’t go that far. There’s an air of Gina G’s ‘Just a Little Bit’ to this, and not in a good way, with Eric Cantona pulling a facial expression which screams “I’ll say the words, but I’m not happy about it”. Rumour has it that Cantona only scored his late winner because he feared the song would get another airing if the game went to extra-time. McNulty, Phil (1 August 2020). "Arsenal 2–1 Chelsea". The 90s represented the golden era of the genre, with several clubs recording songs – often with established artists – ahead of a trip to Wembley. We’ve taken a look at some of the best and worst of yesteryear. Arsenal – Hot Stuff (1998)

I have a lot of questions, probably too many for this article, but the main one concerns whether Tommy Wiseau consciously stole Djorkaeff’s look for The Room. The most instantly recognisable of all Arsenal ditties. Memorably, this song was written by football pundit Jimmy Hill, who felt that the Gunners needed an anthem to rival Liverpool’s ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’ The song went to number 16 in the UK charts, but has been inculcated into the terrace lexicon of match going Gooners ever since. This sounds like the theme song for a new flavour of crisps, or the montage music from a film starring one of the lesser-known Disney Channel stars. What it’s doing anywhere near a football club is anyone’s guess, but in a way I’m glad it exists. Keep watching for the rap. If anyone’s allowed an upbeat, full-of-confidence song, it’s probably a team about to face relegated opponents in a cup final. Unfortunately, once the strong opening subsides, it’s just a glorified terrace chant with that wall-of-drab so common in this kind of music. A solid 4/10. Soar, Phil; Tyler, Martin (2005). Yeah, not great. 16th, actually. Out of 24. This? Yeah I guess it’s not outwardly bad.

George Best’s double hat-trick & the goalkeeper whose day he ruined

Soar, Phil; Tyler, Martin (2011). Arsenal 125 Years in the Making: The Official Illustrated History 1886–2011. Hamlyn. ISBN 978-0-600-62353-3. Sitting at the epicentre of that period between early Britpop and landfill indie, this is a song, that much is accurate. Could easily be a forgettable B-side from a band who appeared on two Shine compilations, and I haven’t worked out yet whether that’s a compliment. Tippa Irie & Peter Hunnigale’s 1993 attempt climbed to number 35 in the UK charts, when it was released prior to the FA Cup Final with Sheffield Wednesday. I still have this on cassette somewhere, but I literally wore it out through repetition as a 9 year old. The song tries to channel the clear love of reggae that Kevin Campbell and Ian Wright demonstrated in their choreographed goal celebrations. (Irie is heard reciting the names “Mr. Kevin Campbell and de Ian Wright” several times during the song). Kai Havertz has had a run of games under Graham Potter now and with 2 goals in his last 3 games it is clear to see why. As Graham Potter gets the hang of this team, how he wants to play and who is best for this style, Havertz has only got better. Havertz has had at least 1 shot on target in all of the last 6 matches he has started, averaging 1.67 shots on target per match in those 9 matches.
