About this deal

In conclusion, I’m simply grateful that we have the many easily available music choices available today. There’s no need to think of MQA as a threat, but rather another option we as consumers have to enjoy great sounding music anywhere at anytime, especially in light of current world situations. We need music! ✌ Reply One lovely little perk here is PausePlus. Imagine you're listening to death metal at the office with Max ANC deployed and your boss approaches (just a random example, no reason). If PausePlus is toggled to on, simply pressing the multi-function button to pause the music also deploys ambient sound, so you can hold a polite conversation with your superior and pretend you were only listening to the latest episode of Revisionist History podcast. Overall, if you want great-sounding wireless headphones without a steep learning curve, the AONIC 50 has you covered. Aonic is a diversified video gaming group with the ambition to become the next gaming powerhouse. From the outset, Aonic was created to fill a clear gap in our industry: to build a truly supportive home for high quality, mid-sized teams. Video gaming is one of the largest and fastest growing segments of entertainment and full of opportunities. We stay away from unproven business models or large incumbent teams – our footprint rests on proven, yet highly dynamic entrepreneurs and creative innovators. Our end goal is to craft fantastic games and ever improving services. This translates into high organic growth and superior return in invested capital.

Slightly recessed on the warm nozzle, detailed and sparkly on the neutral, and an acquired taste on the bright nozzle. Although I am a fan of some brighter textures, the Aonic 5 really emphasizes them, and that may put some people off. The big imaging works on the low and mid bands, but the size of the highs on both the neutral and bright setting is very heavy. Shure claims a battery life of around 20 hours with noise-cancelling and Bluetooth both enabled. This isn’t quite as high as some of the class-leaders, but you should have enough in the tank for most trips before they require an injection of power. through three high-definition balanced armature drivers. Two dedicated woofers and a separate tweeter deliver enhanced highs and warm mid-range with clean, natural low-end. Refined over decades to our own exacting standards, these earphones deliver a truly cinematic audio experience. There’s a throughline trend going on with the Aonic 5. It wants to push the most neutral timbre possible, as to leave room for the different nozzles to do their work. While the sound quality does change, the bass is mostly left to its neutrality. However, I don’t see this as a negative in any regard. The flatter response is useful in a variety of professional applications, such as reference monitoring. At the same time, the Shures look a little unrefined compared to the simpler and more discreet hinge mechanisms used by some rivals. A device like the AudioQuest DragonFly Red would be a good starting place. Provided you’ve got the appropriate cable, it’s a DAC that can also be used with iOS or Android devices too. If this doesn’t work, or your headphones don’t automatically go into pairing mode, you’ll need to empty the list of paired devices. To do this, you must:

The control buttons are also used for power on/off, Bluetooth pairing (the Aonic 215s use Bluetooth 5 with aptX, SBC and AAC capability), play/pause, answer/end/decline call and to summon your voice assistant. Button action is positive, and the Shures prove responsive to commands. The sturdy way the earcups articulate and the headband adjusts (plus the 334g weight) are the only real indications, design-wise, of where your extra outlay might have gone. This hardware kit actually contains two pairs of extra nozzles for the earbuds. These aren’t replacements for the ones currently fitted to the Aonic 5 should one snap or get damaged; each pair can alter the balance of the sound produced by the earbuds. It’s not a new concept and we’ve seen a few manufacturers offer this customisation over the years, but it’s the first time we’ve seen it on a pair of portable Shures. In case you're wondering whether the Shure Aonic 50 Gen 2's headband is nicely padded, yes it is. (Image credit: Future) Shure Aonic 50 Gen 2 review: Value Press and hold the power button of the Shure AONIC 50 (Gen 2) for several seconds until the indicator LED starts flashing blue That said, there are a few major contenders here, obviously - and they’re mostly more affordable than the Shures.

The Aonic 50s support Bluetooth 5.0, while Shure has also included full aptX and aptX HD support – the latter means these headphones will support wireless hi-res audio up to 32-bit/48kHz from a compatible source. AptX Low Latency should ensure the headphones should avoid any issues with lip-sync, and that proves to be the case during testing. Shure estimates battery life to be up to eight hours, with the charging case carrying 32 hours. Your results will vary with your volume levels. Aonic 215 (Gen 2) EQ and Sound Quality The second control array switches between ‘active noise-cancelling on/off’ and ‘environment mode on’– this last features amplifies external sounds, so carrying on a conversation while wearing the headphones (or just simply staying safe while out and about) is easier. Features We start listing with the slider in the default neutral position, which means no sound mode is engaged. The Shures get off to a strong start, thanks to their clean and transparent presentation. They are nicely balanced with crisp highs and pinpoint, precise lows either side of a solid midrange.

Low frequencies are deep, textured and alive with fine harmonic detail - they start and stop with absolute control, and modulate seamlessly into the frequency information above them. In the midrange, the Shures have complete command of timbre and, again, even the finest of details – Marvin Gaye’s vocal is as characterful via the AONIC 50 as you’ve ever heard it. Once audio content is on board, it’s delivered by a single high definition microdriver in each earbud. Shure isn’t exactly making with the details here, either of driver size or material – but this is Shure we’re talking about. If there’s a company you can trust to do the right thing where critical hardware like transducers is concerned, surely Shure is it. Both ‘environment mode’ and ‘active noise-cancellation’ are adjustable in the ShurePlus PLAY app. There are 10 stages of ‘environment mode’ amplification (the maximum setting is vigorous enough to make your own hand-claps painfully loud), but ‘noise-cancellation’(once it’s turned on at the earcup) is either ‘normal’ or ‘max’. Noise-cancellation is effective enough to deal with the noise of any kind of transportation, but turning it on does give a noticeable boost to your music’s volume level too. The flies in the ointment? Occasionally the treble is a little forward in the mix and the ANC is a shade off excellent. Depending on your priorities, this either doesn't matter or is a deal-breaker. It's up to you. Some might find the maximum setting more useful in particularly noisy environments where you might benefit from a slightly fuller, weightier sound, but we prefer the noise-cancelling on its standard setting. Verdict

Paolo Nutini's Loving You is a delight, with Nutini's textured voice held centrally among agile guitars and easy drums. I enjoyed the Aonic’s sense of personalization and versatility. Shure has shown that one earphone can try to do it all, and for the most part, the Aonic 5 succeeded. However, accessibility can be an issue, and this IEM can be a hard sell for some. I found that the more you put into the Aonic 5, the more it delivers. Some may just need an IEM that has a flat, neutral response for monitoring, and the Aonic 5 does that very well, but for a more textured, satisfying sound signature, it definitely benefits from outboard gear. Shure’s wired in-ear models route their cables over and behind the wearer’s ears. The Aonic 215s feature substantial wireless antennae (Shure refers to these as the ‘True Wireless Secure Fit Adapter’), and they follow the same route: over the ear and behind, where each terminates in an unpleasantly bulbous control button. A TIDAL Masters file of The Raconteurs’ version of Donovan’s Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness) sounds entirely fulfilling and does enough to demonstrate every aspect of the 215s’ talents. After 18 months of working together, we're confident we've found the right partner in Aonic. This is the right moment to welcome their support to strengthen our position even further, and seize this critical moment for VR and MR."
