About this deal

These KS2 maths worksheets cover every part of the Year 5 primary maths curriculum, to help your children practise and gain confidence in their understanding ahead of Year 6 and the KS2 SATs. Their focus is on retrieval practice – going over topics that children should already have covered and helping them strengthen their knowledge and understanding. Children first learn about halving and quartering a shape in Key Stage 1. But the concept of equivalent fractions isn’t introduced until Year 3, where children recognise and show, using diagrams, equivalent fractions with small denominators.

You can find out more about the UKS2 National Curriculum here. Searching for more Year 5 English lessons? Geometry — During Year 5, children will delve deeper into the topic of angles. They’ll learn to identify, measure and draw angles, and find missing lengths and angles using the properties of rectangles. Children will also learn to identify 3D shapes from 2D representations. In Year 5, pupils are taught to identify, name and write equivalent fractions of a given fraction, represented visually, including tenths and hundredths. In Year 6, they will add and subtract fractions with different denominators and mixed numbers, using the concept of equivalent fractions. Non-statutory guidance for Year 6 suggests that common factors can be related to finding equivalent fractions and that children practise calculations with simple fractions, including listing equivalent fractions to identify fractions with common denominators. What are equivalent fractions? Homework tasks are a fantastic chance for students to put what they've learnt in class into practice at home.
