About this deal

I think it is too early to tell if this is good, bad, or just different. On first pass I really like it; less fumbling around and it’s more user-friendly for the newer players who are showing up to the game. Having access to 9 elite slots is in particular pretty helpful for armies like wolves or blood angels. The saved CP costs are I believe the biggest value here as during Nephilim you really had issues with CP and were constantly forced to make tough choices in list design as to what (if any) relics to take and what warlord traits to take/ how many. I think this detachment gives people more options in list design, which I enjoy. Armour of Contempt EL: Primaris Apothecary [5 PL, 105pts, -1CP]: Chapter Command: Chief Apothecary, Selfless Healer, Stratagem: Hero of the Chapter, The Crusader’s Helm Bladeguard Veterans are one of the new Marine units this edition and fill a similar role among the Primaris ranks as Assault Terminators do for Classic Marines. While the Bladeguard have some minor shooting with their heavy bolt pistols and upgrade options on their Sergeant, they won't really accomplish much that way. A Vanguard Veteran Squad is formed from those Space Marines of the Chapter's Veteran 1 st Company who have completely immersed themselves in the art of close-quarters combat. Most of them have served lengthy rotations in the Chapters' Assault Squads prior to their promotion, and their skills with chainsword and Combat Knife have been honed and tested in the crucible of bloody melee on a thousand war-torn worlds. Heavy bolt pistol, Master-crafted power sword and Relic shield: Heavy Bolt Pistol, Master-crafted power sword, Relic Shield

Command Squad • Reclusiam Command Squad • Captain • Primaris Captain • Lieutenant • Primaris Lieutenant • Company Ancient • Company Champion You do have some tools to work around this challenge, of course. Eliminators have fallen fairly sharply out of favour with many Marine players, but the lure of the Doctrine here means that you can still make use of them in Raven Guard. You also have access to a powerful weapon upgrade option for the Phobos Characters that makes them a threat to mid-quality characters pretty much all on their own for the relevant turns. It’s also a powerful deterrent to your opponent getting their characters into a fight until you’re through to Assault Doctrine, which can be an major upside against some lists. Finally, being able to switch this on in later turns via Adaptive Stratagy means that if you go into your turn seeing that you’ve got the perfect multicharge into a gaggle of characters lined up, you can massively boost your chances of taking them out. Power Swords, Plasma Pistols and Power Fists are all common sights in Vanguard Veteran Squads, and Thunder Hammers, Lightning Claws and rarer weaponry are also employed as the engagement requires. These weapons are not employed lightly, for they are without exception all ancient and revered artefacts of the Chapter. Saying a unit is hot is all well and good, but let’s take a look at how players are using it. Unit has been in a number of Space Marine lists that have done well at recent tournaments. One list that uses Vanguard Vets is the following run by Sweet Law, 1st place at Heroes Retreat Mini GT. The Raven Guard were the XIX Legion of the original Space Marine Legions. Their Primarch is Corvus Corax . Their homeworld is Deliverance (originally named Lycaeus), a moon which orbits the Hive World Kiavahr. The Legion was devastated at the outbreak of the Horus Heresy and survived only by the most desperate of measures. The Chapter specializes in guerrilla warfare, moving behind enemy lines with unrivaled stealth, and striking with precise application of force. All said and done I really like the look and feel of the list going forward, it gives me a ton of options and plays the mission the way I enjoy playing it. I will be taking this or something very similar to a major in February, so I will have reports for everyone going forward on how I am doing with this. Jaime’s List EL: Primaris Apothecary, Chief Apothecary, Selfless Healer, Stratagem: Hero of the Chapter, The Crusader’s Helm The Raven Guard served the Imperium faithfully during the Great Crusade, taking part in covert operations and regularly employing guerilla tactics to accomplish their goal. When Horus turned traitor, the Raven Guard were one of seven legions sent to Istvaan V, joining the Iron Hands, Salamanders, Iron Warriors, Word Bearers, Alpha Legion, and Night Lords to put an end to the Warmaster’s rebellion. There they were betrayed, as four legions turned on them, decimating the loyalist legions almost immediately. This was a blow the Raven Guard would struggle to recover from, removing them from much of the fighting of the heresy. The Codex Astartes prescribes standardised iconography for the Veteran units of any Codex-compliant Space Marine Chapter. Every Veteran member of a Chapter is entitled to display their elite status using a white helmet. A Veteran sergeant's helmet is red with a white stripe to designate their Veteran status. A Veteran's power armour, regardless of pattern, features white or silver-trimmed shoulder plates.

Here we can see the deathly pale skin tons of the Raven Guard. I don’t like going full alabaster for their skin. I prefer to give a little bit of warmth and vitality, but still preserving that unnatural paleness. Use Devout Push to move into table quarters to score points for the Engage on All Fronts secondary objectiveAll of the battle-brothers and the sergeants of the 1st Company are Veterans, vastly experienced Space Marine warriors who have seen many combats and have survived them all. All of these Astartes would have been recruited from within the ranks of the Chapter's Battle and Reserve Companies. Combat Squads- Before any models are deployed at the start of the game, a 10-man Vanguard Veteran squad may be split into two units of 5 models. This kit comes supplied unpainted and requires assembly - we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Paints. Welcome to the fire sale, where everything is priced to move! Wolves are one of the largest winners for points adjustments. Let’s look at a few of the many point drops affecting Space Wolves in Arks of Omen: Most such Veterans have served as Sergeants elsewhere in the Chapter-- sometimes for centuries -- before being accepted into the 1 st Company, but a notable few are elevated after performing insane acts of heroism.

Librarian ( Epistolary • Codicier • Lexicanum • Primaris Librarian • Vanguard Librarian) • Chaplain ( Reclusiarch • Primaris Chaplain • Judiciar) • Apothecary ( Primaris Apothecary • Helix Adept) • Techmarine ( Primaris Techmarine) This is equally true for the Special Weapon Trooper who may be chosen to carry one of the following weapons: Flamer, Meltagun or Plasma Gun. The Flamer is useful for clearing obstacles of enemy troops and can be especially deadly in confined areas. The Plasma Gun is a medium-range armour-piercing weapon useful against foes with a preponderance of body armour. The Meltagun is particularly effective against armoured vehicles although it has a very short range. Troop: Primaris Intercessors. Ten Models. Every model is equipped with: bolt pistol; bolt rifle; frag grenades; krak grenades. – 180 ptsThis plastic kit contains 98 components with which to make a 5 man Space Marine Vanguard Veteran Squad (and so much more!). Company Veterans form the fighting centre of the company Command Squad. They will often serve as the company captain's bodyguards, a small but elite strike force or a bulwark on the battlefield, ready to lead an offensive or shore up any flagging battle line.

Weak Chapter Tactic: The mainline Chapter Tactic for the Raven Guard took a real hit on the way to 9th, and with smaller tables and a focus on close engagements it’s a lot less useful than it once was. It isnt’t totally useless, but you should definitely consider whether it’s the best choice for your plans or if you want to look at Successors. Other grenade types are occasionally used on special missions but are generally restricted to the use of officers and squad leaders. When you select a PSYKER unit to manifest psychic powers, you select one psychic power that unit knows and attempt to manifest it. With the exception of Smite, you cannot attempt to manifest the same psychic power more than once in the same battle round, even with different PSYKER units. The same PSYKER unit cannot attempt to manifest Smite more than once during the same battle round. Although the Raven Guard are a First Founding Chapter, like several notable chapters from that founding they wouldn’t receive their first mentions in the fluff until the release of second edition, first appearing in White Dwarf #166 ahead of the release of the 2nd edition boxed set for Warhammer 40,000 when all of the First Founding chapters were finally named. This led to some interesting quirks where Crimson Fists and Raptors existed before their own founding chapters. And while Raven Guard and their Primarch Corax finally received mention in the 2nd edition release of 40k, they wouldn’t receive rules until almost a decade later in December 2002, when they finally saw rules in their own Index Astartes article in White Dwarf #276. These would essentially be replaced by the 4th edition Space Marines Codex, which released with a model for the Raven Guard’s Captain of the Third Company, Kayvaan Shrike. Predator Destructor ( Predator Annihilator • Baal Predator) • Land Raider ( Land Raider Phobos • Land Raider Crusader • Land Raider Redeemer • Land Raider Achilles • Land Raider Prometheus • Land Raider Terminus Ultra • Land Raider Ares • Land Raider Excelsior • Land Raider Wrath of Mjalnar • Land Raider Angel Infernus • Land Raider Solemnus Aggressor • Land Raider Anvilarum) • Deimos Vindicator Laser Destroyer • Repulsor • Repulsor Executioner • Gladiator ( Gladiator Reaper • Gladiator Valiant • Gladiator Lancer) • Astraeus

If the Tactical Doctrine was active for your army during the previous battle round, you can change it so that the Assault Doctrine is now active. Of all Space Marines, Veterans are most likely to have a mix of different patterns and configurations of power armour within their ranks. Space Marine power armour is individually produced, with each suit adapted to its wearer. Variants of the Veteran tactical role icon worn on the right shoulder plate by Veteran Ultramarines. Let’s take a look at a unit that was the boogie man of 9th edition for 3 weeks. Today’s Meta Hotness, Blood Angel Vanguard Veterans.
