About this deal

Read all patient information, medication guides, and instruction sheets provided to you. Do not change your doses or medication schedule without your doctor's advice. If you are using minoxidil foam (brand name Regaine® for Women Once a Day), apply 1 g of foam (half a capful) to the affected area of your scalp once a day. To do this, turn the can upside down and direct the nozzle in to your hand. Press the nozzle until you have the equivalent of half a capful of foam in your hand. Use your fingertips to gently massage the foam into the affected area of scalp. Remember to wash your hands after using the foam so it doesn't get on to other areas of your skin, or on to other people. If you have a reaction to minoxidil, stop using it and speak to your GP or pharmacist. For the full list of side effects, read the patient information leaflet that comes with your medicine. Assessment was undertaken by patients using a 100mm visual analogue scale and assessing scalp coverage where point 0 represented much less scalp coverage, 50mm no difference and 100mm much more scalp coverage. In addition, an assessment was undertaken by 2 blinded reviewers who compared photographs taken at baseline and after 48 weeks. Differences were assessed using a 7 point categorical scale viz: Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.

Certain medicines should not be used at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food since interactions may occur. Using alcohol or tobacco with certain medicines may also cause interactions to occur. Discuss with your healthcare professional the use of your medicine with food, alcohol, or tobacco. Other Medical Problems You can use minoxidil alongside prescription treatments, find out more in our Finasteride and minoxidil guide. Minoxidil is designed to be used twice daily, ideally at twelve-hour intervals. It is best, however, to use the treatment at least an hour before you go to bed in the evening as this will prevent the solution from rubbing off onto your pillow before it has been properly absorbed. Studies in women suggest that this medication poses minimal risk to the infant when used during breastfeeding. Drug Interactions Finally, if you realise that you’ve missed a dose, skip it. Do not take a double dose to make up for it or squeeze in an extra application. Again, this will increase the chances of side effects. Wash Your Hands ThoroughlyUsers should be aware that, whilst extensive use of Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution has not revealed evidence that sufficient minoxidil is absorbed to have systemic effects, greater absorption because of misuse, individual variability, unusual sensitivity or decreased integrity of the epidermal barrier caused by inflammation or disease processes in the skin (e.g. excoriations of the scalp, or scalp psoriasis) could lead, at least theoretically, to systemic effects. You may notice an increased loss of hair initially, but this should only last for about two weeks. If it continues after this time, stop using minoxidil Preclinical data reveal no special hazards for humans based on conventional studies of safety pharmacology, repeated dose toxicity, genotoxicity or carcinogenic potential. Do not use a hairdryer to dry the scalp after you apply minoxidil solution. Blowing with a hairdryer on the scalp may make the treatment less effective. Make sure your hair and scalp are dry before you apply minoxidil. It is recommended that you leave about an hour between washing your hair and applying the preparation.

There are two minoxidil preparations available which are suitable for men to use - a scalp solution and a scalp foam. The scalp solution is suitable for men aged 18-65 years, whereas the foam is suitable for men 18-49 years old. Minoxidil preparations are not available on the NHS, but you can buy them, without a prescription, in pharmacies and other retail outlets. But how to use Minoxidil? It’s a legitimate question, and, in this article, we’ll provide the answer. For some men, this normal ageing process can be distressing, particularly if it is excessive or occurs early in life. Treatment with a minoxidil preparation rubbed into the scalp may help prevent further hair loss in some men. It is not clear how it works and benefit from the treatment is only maintained for as long as the preparation is used.Increased systemic absorption of minoxidil may potentially occur if higher-than-recommended doses of Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution are applied to larger surface areas of the body or areas other than the scalp.

Based upon these photographic data, around 60% of the patients experienced an increased scalp coverage after 48 weeks treatment with Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution as defined by re-growth of hair; compared with around 23% at an average for those who received vehicle alone. Of these, around 35% treated with Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution experienced dense or moderate regrowth compared with around 7% who received vehicle alone. In addition 30% of patients who received Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution were adjudged to have no change between the photographic assessments of hair growth compared with 60% who received vehicle alone. Stabilisation of hair loss (expressed both as regrowth of hair and no continuation of hair loss) can therefore be expected in about 4 out of 5 of patients using Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution compared with 3 out of 4 patients using vehicle alone. The method of application will differ depending on whether you are using lotion or foam, but the basic technique is to apply a small amount (usually 1ml) very carefully to areas of the scalp affected by balding and to massage it into the skin. If you are using liquid minoxidil, it is likely that you will be provided with an applicator to make the process easier and more accurate.

How long does minoxidil take to work?

In common with all medications, Minoxidil can cause side effects. Some people may experience no side effects. Kerry Yates is a trichologist, beauty expert, and the founder of Colour Collective, a brand development agency and incubator for new hair products, concepts, and trends. It works by helping to prevent further hair loss and by encouraging hair regrowth, and is applied directly to the scalp where the hair loss has occurred. This happens because Minoxidil resets your hair’s growth cycle. Before the “growth” phase, your follicles rest and, during this time, hair often falls out. This is a sign that the medicine is working and you will see regrowth soon. How to Apply Minoxidil for the Best Results
