About this deal

At least with Pendergast, that series felt like I could believe it even though it seemed ridiculous at times. I think Preston & Child just do a better job with explaining the plots in that series. Hopefully they will do that in the future with this series as well. The saving grace was that I did listen to it on audio. The narrator, well-known actor John Glover, brought this story to life with his clever vocalizations and personifications of the dialogue. This is one of those cases when a good narrator can stave a sinking ship from going down, or mostly. While this book is not a good one, it was at times entertaining because of the narration. To explain why the 300 men who brought water to their mouths with their hands were chosen to fight, while those who lapped the water directly or bowed down were not chosen, some rabbis explain that lapping directly is disgraceful and similar to a dog, while bowing down resembles idolatry. [27] Therefore on that day he (Joash) called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar. [17] Gathering an army [ edit ] Gideon’s Corpse is the second book in the series and a continuation of Gideon’s Sword. We find Gideon willing to return to his scientist life. Unfortunately, things are not that simple since he is aware that he is suffering from a brain aneurysm and has a few months to live. He sometimes doubts the source of that information which was Glinn and wants to find out the truth of his condition.

The two have a simple mentorship, but Aiglamene is the closest thing to family that Gideon has within the Ninth House. However limited Aiglamene's support may be in actuality, she is the only person in Gideon's corner on the Ninth Planet, and for many years that was enough to win her Gideon's respect. Aiglamene attempts to teach Gideon a number of lessons on obedience and respect that Gideon will only truly come to understand when she leaves home. Whoever is afraid of the enemy may go home." And twenty-two thousand people went away, leaving only ten thousand in Gideon's army. But the army was stronger though it was smaller, for the cowards had gone, and only the brave men were left. From this point, Gideon forces herself into Harrow's life and confidence, refusing to be set aside. Despite maintaining the charade of strangers and enemies, the two begin to build trust in the face of an impossible and dangerous task. The origin of the phrase "putting out a fleece" is a reference to the story of Gideon meaning to look for a sign from God before undertaking some action or carrying out some plan. O Lord God, give me some sign that thou wilt save Israel through me. Here is a fleece of wool on this threshing floor. If to-morrow morning the fleece is wet with dew, while the grass around it is dry, then I shall know that thou art with me; and that thou wilt give me victory over the Midianites." In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes.” Judges 17:6; 21:25 RSV La historia me ha gustado, hubo partes que me sorprendieron. En cuanto al final me dejó con más ganas de saber sobre Glinn, me dejo algo confundía .

Like its sequel it is a fun read and does not overstay its welcome. A third one is in the making I believe.
