About this deal

Topical corticosteroids may be hazardous in psoriasis for a number of reasons including rebound relapses following development tolerance, the risk of generalised pustular psoriasis and local and systemic toxicity due to impaired barrier function of the skin; careful patient supervision is important. Anthisan bite and sting cream contains the active ingredient mepyramine maleate, which is a type of medicine called an antihistamine. Stings can cause a sharp pain. Bee stings are similar to wasp and hornet stings, but the sting is barbed, so it often gets left in the skin. Allergic reaction (e.g. skin rash, red or itchy skin, worsening of the condition you are treating). Speak to your pharmacist for advice and treatment with over-the-counter medicines, to help with pain, swelling and itching

This is a medicine; Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have an underlying medical condition, are taking any other medication or complementary therapy, or if symptoms persist. As with all corticosteroids, application to the face may damage the skin and should be avoided. Caution should be taken to keep away from the eyes. Topical corticosteroids are not generally indicated in psoriasis excluding widespread plaque psoriasis provided that warnings are given. Appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be used treating inflammatory lesions which have become infected. Any spread of infection requires withdrawal of topical corticosteroid therapy, and systemic administration of antimicrobial agents. The cream is most effective when applied as soon as possible after getting the bite or sting. How to use Anthisan creamMepyramine maleate is a topical antihistamine that fights your body’s itchy reaction to allergens such as bug bites and certain plants. It appears in numerous itch-killing creams, sometimes alongside an anaesthetic.

Bites and stings usually leave a red lump on the skin, which may be painful, and are often very itchy. Some people might have a mild allergic reaction, which causes a larger area around the bite or sting to become swollen, red and painful. This should pass within a week, but if it's still causing discomfort after that, it's a good idea to see your GP.

There is no good evidence that topical corticosteroids are efficacious against immediate (Type 1) allergic skin reactions or short-lived weal and flare reactions from other causes. Pain, swelling and itchiness should last no longer than a few days. If symptoms don't improve, or get worse, speak to your pharmacist or GP. Seek advice before using if you are breast feeding, pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or suffer from allergies.
