The hospital specialist will send your GP a report advising of any treatment, or further investigations needed. If your treatment is to begin immediately, you will be given a letter to hand to your GP. Please bring your medicines with you, or a note of all your medication, when you attend for your appointment.

Patients attending some clinics at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary now have the option of receiving a text (SMS) reminder of their appointment. Full details are available in this patient information sheet(pdf). You may be asked to return to the clinic. Your assessment will be carried out by health care professionals and can take from 30 minutes up to several hours. Having an assessment done at this time means that you will have to spend less time in hospital when you come in for your operation. Our hospitals train doctors, nurses and other staff. The hospital is also involved in research which will help to improve the care and treatment of patients with mental health problems. You might be asked to help in this teaching and research. If you do not wish to take part, please tell your consultant or named nurse. This will not affect your care or treatment. Even if you do agree to help, you may change your mind at any time. Ask if there is written information available that you may take away with you to read at your own leisure.As you know, volunteers are always active at the heart of every UK community, even more so over the last few difficult years, so this Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to take time to thank volunteers for all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole. If for any reason, your appointment has to be cancelled by the clinic, we will let you know of an alternative date by letter or by telephone. Some tests may have to be performed before you are examined, and in a number of clinics you may be asked to provide samples of blood and/or urine. Hospedia is available as an option to patients on some of our wards. This Bedside TV and Phone Service lets you make and receive phone calls from your bedside. Family and friends can call you directly at your bedside, using your personal Hospedia number. If you have to move to a different ward during your stay, your Hospedia account moves with you. Routine voluntary services across NHS Grampian were suspended in March 2020 at the start of the pandemic. We are now looking to remobilise our voluntary services across the organisation and are seeking volunteers to help support our service across Grampian.This information is to help you during your visit to our hospital.
