About this deal

Emma: Baal Red is a pure, bright red. It’s versatile and easy to blend with other Contrast paints like Magmadroth Flame. I have used it for gemstones, armour plates on Orks , and plasma effects on Chaos Space Marine weapons. In my personal opinion, I feel that this aspect alone makes Xpress Colors superior to The Army Painter’s Speedpaints, at least for my clean and tidy painting style (see my review of The Army Painter’s Speedpaint here). I heard that a lot of people actually grew to like Speedpaints’ reactivation and use it in creative ways, for example for blending techniques. For those that are missing this feature in Xpress Colors, you can soak a brush or cotton swab with white spirit and rub off the paint to lighten specific spots, just like with Contrast. We know that The Army Painter works on an updated and expanded Speedpaints range with the help of a group of content creators, which will feature an improved resin that won’t reactivate after they’ve cured for a certain amount of time. As soon as these come out, I will review them, so stay tuned. All 23 Xpress Colors in comparison

In this section, I’ll go through the basic recipe I concocted for painting Emperor’s Spears, and the process for getting there. Here are the paints you need: For now, it looks like most of the big paint companies have jumped on the contrast hype train, as Green Stuff World recently made a similar product, and of course, the Army Painter Speedpaintis great as well. Before I take a closer look at all 23 colours and compare them to their Citadel counterparts in one of my popular hand-painted colour swatches, I first want to find out whether Xpress Colors can live up to their promises. So let’s give them a try. Xpress Color review – the features Well, so far I’m rather fond of working with Xpress Colors, now let’s have a look at each colour individually. As usual, I painted these on a white primed sheet of plasticard and photographed them under a neutral 5500K light. You can get your own Contrast Paints for less from independent retailers or Games Workshop directly at the links below:

This paint is great for doing all sorts of bone colors and if you want to make them stand out from one another, try various kinds of washes on it to make them stand out. For use with death armies or those with lots of skulls and bones, this is a lifesaver in terms of time and how good it looks. Sitting next to Volupus Pink, but even richer, this colour comes close to the intensity of Screamer Pink, but with the unique flow of contrast. This ended up quite a bit more teal than I was looking for, but I still like how bright it is and how well it’ll stand out on a battlefield. In case the photo doesn’t do it for you or you want to dump it into a shopping list on your phone, I have it in list form as well:The Emperor’s Spears have a reputation for being hot-headed and difficult to work with and fiercely independent, almost to the point of unreliability. They’ve been chastised on multiple occasions for not coordinating with other Imperial forces during key campaigns and have clashed with loyalist space marines on more than one occasion. In particular, they clashed with the Aurora Chapter (another Ultramarines successor) over the Eukari Resurrection and who would get credit for winning the campaign after a series of what may be the pettiest set of actions form a space marine chapter I’ve ever read. This led to them being rebuked by the Ultramarines, and they’ve been mad about it ever since. Where to Read More
