About this deal

There was also some action in this book but not enough to outweight the star-crossed lovers stuff and Juliette's near constand crying and inability to get better (both psychologically and powerwise). Sooo, to be honest, I have no idea how many stars I should give this. Ignite Me probably three. Unravel me... One? Two? I really can't say and it always pains me to give less than three stars because I know how much work, how much love, how much blood, sweat and tears go into a book like that and I feel really bad but it's just MY opinion and obviously most people loved the series but I really couldn't stand that book and.....

Everything is so dramatic and over the top. The dialogue is repetitive and unnatural as if Mafi didn’t know when to stop. Nothing is left to the reader to imagine for themselves or fill in the gaps. And every time I thought she might be making a redemption, she squashed it by doing exactly the obvious, which also happened to be the dumbest option available. There was no subversion of tropes or plot lines. None. By the way, Juliette's powers? Very, very cool. I'm not keen on touching people anyway but having superpowers? Hell yes!

Also, I just need to give some praise to Kenji as well. He can be funny, but there is so much more to him than his jokes.

One touch is all it takes. One touch, and Juliette Ferrars can bring a grown man to his knees, begging for mercy. One touch, and she can kill. È un distopico o no? Rip-roaring adventure and steamy romance scenes, with a relationship teens will root for as much as they did for Bella and Edward." -- ALA Booklist

But the worst thing of all is the fact that abuse is lauded as romantic in these novels. Warner may hurt Juliette and be forgiven for it time and time again all because, beneath his terrible acts, his motives are supposedly based in the fact that he loves her. Nevermind that time and time again his love is portrayed as selfish and only insofar as she benefits him. Mafi did a fantastic job at relaying the fact that Juliette is… troubled in the head at the start of the book. the numbers the repetitive thoughts the contradicting thoughts—sometimes all at once—was a very good idea. the crossing out of words/sentences to show how she’s at odds with herself was cool too. I just really liked it. It read fast. It’s original. It reignited a fresh desire in myself to write with creative intent, not just to get the point across. No one knows why Juliette has such incredible power. It feels like a curse, like too great a burden for one person alone to bear. But The Reestablishment sees her as an opportunity. As a deadly weapon. And they'll stop at nothing to shape her into what they want. So, my thoughts. The premise is as basic as basic comes. A teen girl has super powers that ruin her life and has to fight in a rebellion to end the dystopian rule of The Reestablishment. The twist? She has a complicated relationship with Warner. the local bad guy, but wait! He isn’t as bad as he’s made out to be! He falls in love with Juliette for completely ridiculous reasons, and she finds him... attractive, so she ‘feels things’ for him. He really loves his mom. Warner, seems super harsh and cold-hearted, which he can be, but never ever when it comes to his mother. Warner goes through so much to try to get his mother well and puts her before people’s opinion of him. The first time we see him cry is when his mom died and it was heartbreaking. And the second character I liked: Kenji. Such a lovely, funny guy who doesn't take anyone's shit. Least of all Juliette's. He was the one who always called her out and helped her grow. I'm very glad they became best friends, they're good for each other. these books will make you feel a lot of emotions and will make you care for the characters and for the plot. Warner. You know those jerks who are always smiling like they know something you don't? That's him, only ten times worse.
