So now I have to pretend I'm a music teacher and figure out how to introduce her all this stuff properly. I guess the exercises are okay as long as I teach her the material first and then just practice with the exercises. What is the difference between a=440, a=415 and a=442?At most chapter play-ins, the common pitch will be somewhere around a=440, referred to as “modern pitch.” For a much more in-depth exploration of pitch, here is an excellent ARS NOVA e-Mag article by Eric Haas, “ What is a=440 Pitch?” I am personally a fan of the Alfred books and use them for several instruments but Hal Lenard books are just as great. The only thing in the book that gives an indication that this is a kids book is irrelevant cutesy pictures all over the place.

This great beginner’s book also provides a great introduction to reading and playing music, includes a fun pull-out Wall Chart to help with practice, and will have kids playing their first tunes in no time!
