About this deal

I have both the 10.5 and 11s in the new Torin 5. I have a Morton's toe/neuroma and Altra saved me from needing surgery 7 years ago. I love the Torin 4. So far when I run in the Torin 5 the padding in the tongue feels weird for the first couple miles and my left baby toe is rubbing on the side. Any thoughts? The midsole is fun and functional. Altra swapped out their Quantic midsole material for the new EgoMax foam. It’s soft and squishy, yet maintains the responsiveness to go fast. I’m not sure how or why this is possible, but I’m a big fan. By the spring of 2019, the Torin 4 came out. This was a two-year shoe, and for my shop, I think this was our favorite Altra that we had in here. I know for a road shoe, the Escalante was a massive change for Altra, but as far as people just put on a shoe and were really happy with the fit and feel, the Torin 4 was an awesome shoe. Once I got used to the softer ride of the shoes the Torin 5 became my go to shoe for my easy runs, recovery runs and longer road runs! As mentioned previously they have a slipper like feel, which is like the Altra Lone Peak, which I really enjoy. ALEX: The Altra Torin 5 is a comfortable, lightweight, and highly versatile shoe that maintains the roomy, natural foot shape comfort and feel that the brand is known for.

TAYLOR: This shoe runs small, and I mean SMALL. My normal 10.5 was so short, I feel that I could’ve gone a full size up easily. At the very least, be sure to go up half a size. Topo Phantom 2: These have a similar broad rounded toe box but are 5mm from heel to forefoot. They are stiffer through the midfoot and more fitted at the heel. So, they don’t allow quite as much foot function as the Torin 5. Here is a link to our review: The Torin 4 is, without a doubt, the best fitting shoe I have ever put on my foot, so I'll get my one complaint about version 5 out of the way. They did away with the lacing tabs and interior booty fit that wrapped my foot so well in version 4, leaving the Torin 5 looking a little loose and baggy in the midfoot. This does, however, make it a more wide-open feel and fit that will accommodate a wider foot or higher instep, so I get it. I immediately felt more support in the heel and arch in the Torin 5 as a result of Altra eliminating some medial flex grooves and making the midfoot of the shoe a little stiffer than the 4. They definitely nailed the cushioning with their new EGO MAX midsole. Quantic foam was comfy and soft, but I love the added bounce and snappy feel I get with the new stuff! Everyone’s gait is slightly different, but there are four main types of running styles and pronation:Tipping the scales at 9 oz the Torin 5 is nice and light. While not as lean as a racing shoe, the Torin 5 is perfectly in league with shoes within its intended use genre. The Torin 5 is the perfect weight for those everyday runs. Altra even achieves this weight while offering a slightly more cushioned platform. Enhanced heel collar is a nice touch We have been fitting mostly true to size. Some customers depending on what they have going on with fit have had to go up. It’s not many though I have to begin by saying that the Torin 5 was so comfortable that I sometimes forgot that I was wearing a running shoe. The supple sidewall construction really needs no adaptation period. The wonderful aeration of the upper material and the great cushion of the sole only adds to that comfort. I'm officially a fan of the new EGO MAX foam used in the Torin 5. It mixes a good bit of responsiveness with a soft, but not too soft, landing. Combined with the wide toebox and zero-drop, it allows for a really amazing ground feel. The shoe transitions really smoothly with a flexible forefoot. In this new carbon-plated world we run in, it felt really nice to know what my foot was doing again. During gait analysis you will be asked to walk and run on our in-store treadmill whilst your movements are recorded using the latest Daftfish software. A slow-motion, detailed analysis will show and explain your biomechanics, specifically looking at pronation, the inward-turning movement that occurs when your foot touches the ground. During walking and running this acts as cushioning for the body.

The zero-drop platform and wide toebox make this difficult to compare directly with many other shoes. The closest comparison would be the Topo Phantom which has a bit more cushion and heft than the Torin 5, making the Torin 5 a much speedier feeling trainer. I would place the Torin 5 in the same category for cushion and performance as the Hoka Clifton, Saucony Ride, Brooks Levitate, and On Cloud X. ALEX: The Altra Torin 5 is a max cushion, neutral shoe that was built for versatility. The new EgoMax foam provides a plush ride and responsive feel, and the updates to the upper offer a comfortable, secure fit right out of the box. The cushioning of the Torin 5 feels slightly less plush to me compared to previous versions, but I think they just need a bit of a break-in period. Shop Torin 5 – Men Shop Torin 5 – Women Altra Torin 5 Conclusion TAYLOR: The Torin 5 adopts Altra’s new EgoMax midsole, similar to the AltraEGO foam in the Rivera. The “Max,” though, essentially means more of that EGO midsole. Despite more cush than the last iteration, the Torin sees a cut in weight (9.3 ounces for a men’s 10.5) and a whole lot more responsiveness than what came from the old midsole. Alright, I have to be honest. I have a soft spot for a little extra cushion in my running shoes. Don´t get me wrong, I love my slimmed down, 7oz, no-nonsense racing flats, but when it comes to pounding the pavement to get my daily miles in, I really enjoy the cushion. The Torin 5 strikes a nice balance between soft and responsive in their Altra EGO MAX sole.

What You Need To Know

The Torin 5 fits true to size. I wear a US men’s 9.5 and the Torin hit the mark exactly. Some extra cushion… Just for you!

If you aren’t used to lower or Zero Drop shoes, it’s a good idea to gradually increase the time you spend in the shoes, alternating with your current shoes. This way your feet and lower legs will gradually get stronger without getting over loaded.Altra narrowed the toe box ~.24” after the Torin 3.5. The 4, 4.5 and 5 no longer provide the wider, Morton Neuroma-friendly toe box discussed here. What’s in store this time around? Well, I have a feeling fans of the new Altra Rivera will love this one, as they’re very similar shoes. Hello! I feel you, the Torin 4 was pretty amazing. It did have a mid foot wrap like no other. The Phantom does not have a bootie sewn in but the tongue isn’t sliding around. We probably sell 2-1 Phantom to Torins. Sorry they ruined your favorite shoe :( Altra shoes are built to be gender specific. This means that the last shape of the women’s shoes is designed to fit the natural differences in women’s feet. They aren’t just men’s shoes in smaller sizes and ‘girly’ colours! My wife is also a Torin 5 fan and it’s her shoe pictured! It’s very important to know your running gait so that we can advise and fit the correct shoes according to your own individual requirements. Can’t get into store? Try a wet foot test

STEF : Altra continues to deliver with their ever-popular neutral, cushion road shoe. The Torin 5 is an extremely versatile, do-it-all shoe with a lightweight and responsive design. I don’t love the rigid-edged tongue as it digs into the front of my ankle. I ended up doing a little bit of surgery to remedy this issue, and it’s now reminiscent of a Komodo dragon (or Gene Simmons).

Rawlings Running Cap

The Torin 5 has a great look about it. The Torin has great lines and cool contours on the heel box. With four colors to choose from, the Torin will fit most runners' styles.
